I have a local file I wish to view in firefox without starting a HTTP server (it's only docs for a crate I'm building) however Firefox is unable to open the file despite the file existing and having correct permissions. The file was in a separate mount (disk) to where Ffox is installed so I copied to to /tmp/ to remove that as a variable but still no joy..
➜ ~ file /tmp/index.html /tmp/index.html: HTML document, Unicode text, UTF-8 text, with very long lines (3556) ➜ ~ ls -la /tmp/index.html -rwxr-xr-x 1 ben ben 4208 Dec 30 14:04 /tmp/index.html
Am I missing some new setting which allows local file browsing using the good old 'file:///' protocol?
Thanks, Ben

Hello! See the screenshot please: so, I downloaded à pay-bill, with Firefox (under ubuntu), in private navigation, and I get the file with a padlock-symbol at the end. What means that? What means that for me (on my computer), what means that for à friend, when I sent him the pdt-file (can he open it?). Nota: I understood that I can choose between "delete downloads when closing the privat window" or not. And I choosed not to delete them (but there appears this padlock-symbol). Thanks for your help! Hi Mozilla I hav got a problem with Firefox on Kubuntu 24.04.3. Everytime the computer is restarted Firefox crashes the first time it's started. That's not a big problem, starting Firefox again don't take long. But the problems is exceeding. If i start Firefox by clicking a link in a mail in Thunderbird. And Firefox has not yet been started, It crashes, but now it's also invaliding the Task bar on the screen where Firefox was started. Invaliding means that I cannot start apps from that screens taskbar, and the clock has stalled, none of the tools works etc. The only possibility solution I have been able to figure out, is restart (It's like going back to Win 98). Sometimes I am able to start a app from that invalid taskbar. But it's not the one app that i clicked on. Even though I can trigger it via Thunderbird, the invaliding of the taskbar will occur after a while. And I have to restart. I am not sure if this is the right place to post. But Firefox is always involved, but maybe Thunderbird or Ubuntu was the right place? Every time Firefox crashes there is send a crash report to Mozilla, but is has been going on for a while, so i guess that nobody is looking at the crash report. If I use Chromium instead of Firefox I don't see the problem.

Hello. I am using Linux Mint 21.3 cinnamon and Firefox 144.0.2 When I use Google maps and the yellow small pointer (cartoon) to go on a specific street, the window come black when shifting to street view. My only extension is disabled, hardware acceleration unchecked, cache cleared and cookies cleared. I have made fresh install and nothing help. Troubleshooting mode allow street view to work fine but normal mode don't work. Google chrome work good. Chromium work good. And finally, Firefox work ok on my Linux mint LMDE 6.
Any idea where to go to solve this issue?
Thanks for your support

I have recently encountered reproducible failures when attempting to download files or save pages to local storage. The target directory is located on a mounted NTFS file system with the options umask=007, user=root, and group=disk. My Firefox browser is running under a non-root user account that is a member of the disk group. However, I consistently receive the error message: “XXX could not be saved because the source file could not be read.”
I would greatly appreciate anyone's assistance in resolving this issue.

Hi, I'm using Firefox 142 on Ubuntu 24.04. It's a fresh install. I cannot sign in icloud.com with Firefox even though it works with other browsers like Brave. I deleted all cookies and site data and disabled extensions (KeePassXC). It doesn't help. I tried in new private window. No success. I copy my password from a password manager, so, no, I haven't mistyped it.
Here's what I do:
At this point Brave behaves differently than Firefox. See below for how Brave behaves.
Firefox: -> A "Password" field appears (no buttons "Continue with Password" and "Sign in with Passkey")
-> Error message "Failed to verify your identity. Try again" appears. See icloud.png
Brave: -> Two buttons "Continue with Password" and "Sign in with Passkey" appear. See icloud-with-brave.png
-> A "Password" field appears.
-> 2FA code is sent to my iPhone -> "Two-Factor Authentication" form opens... etc. complete sign in successfully
Please help!
Unfortunately I cannot attach the HAR file from the login sequence because the password is included. However, I attached some screenshots from the Web Developer Tools. It seems to me that the login flow with Firefox is broken. I can't tell who's to blame, Apple of Firefox. The error message with Firefox is always the same, no matter whether I enter the correct password or rubbish. In Brave, however, there is a more precise error message when I enter a bad password. See icloud-with-brave-wrong-password.png

Ubuntu - I use the SNAP version of Firefox - I generally have lots of tabs open but only use 5 or so of them and it's generally fine.... but when I am closing Firefox, it USES like 100% of the CPU and ALL of the RAM and ALL of the SWAP memory when closing.
This locks up the computer.
Sometimes it doesn't quite go all the way but I can watch it all happen in real time, using Task Manager - and that shows a solidwall of all resources occouring, when the close Firefox is run.
I am told by research via ChatGPT that this is a very real problem with the SNAP version and it's best to change to the Debian version, copy all the bookmarks etc., across and then uninstall the SNAP version.
It's rather disconcerting to have Linux crash because of this one app locking it up and frequently.
Chat GPT:
Is there a problem with Firefox Snap Version closing and using all the resources while doing so, which results in locking up the computer?
You're definitely not imagining it—there have been reports of Firefox's Snap version consuming excessive system resources (CPU, memory) and even causing lockups or hangs, particularly during closure. Here's what’s going on and how to mitigate it:
What’s Happening with Firefox Snap?
2. Browser Hangs or Locks the System on Close
On Linux (especially Ubuntu), users have reported that closing Firefox can lead to it hanging in memory, sometimes unresponsive and still consuming resources. Super User Ask Ubuntu A stark example from Reddit illustrates the severity: “About 50% of the time I open Firefox, it'll reach 100% CPU usage in about 30 seconds… PC completely unusable unless I shutdown.” Reddit
3. Known Wayland Sway Bug
On Wayland/Sway setups, reloading Sway while Firefox is open can trigger intense logging, causing high CPU use and an enormous syslog. Fix: Set MOZ_DISABLE_WAYLAND_PROXY=1, or upgrade to FF 125 where the issue is addressed. Reddit+1
Alternative Approach
Many users, particularly on Ubuntu, opt out of Snap completely in favor of the .deb package or PPA builds. These alternatives often avoid these specific issues. Ask Ubuntu Reddit

This is one of the more annoying messages Firefox has recently added:
"Your browser is being managed by your organisation."
It is obviously wrong, because it is shown on a private Ubuntu 24.04 computer where I have myself installed Firefox from a tarball installation (Firefox version 142.0.1).
The about:policies page just shows: Homepage: URL "https://start.ubuntu-mate.org/"
Locked false StartPage "homepage"
Why does Firefox give such obviously misleading information? All the other articles are not helpful at all either, some are talking about security software, some about malware.
This is an extremely user-unfriendly and confusing message: if security software is to blame, why does Firefox not tell what exactly is restricted? When malware changed something why does Firefox not tell what it changed? What even does the message actually imply, what is prevented what otherwise would work and why? What does the information shown on the about:policies page really tell me?
This is by the way shown when starting Firefox using an EMPTY directory for its profile (so making it use a brand new profile), running from a brand new installation directory extracted from a tar file. So what on earth makes it think it is "managed by my organization"?
There is no extension installed, no policies.json file in the newly created profile, nothing. It looks as if the firefox browser would just arrive with this weird setting/configuration comiled right into it?

Problem: When I download a file and download another one right after that one, the window showing the folder I am choosing to download to won't show the file/image preview of the file I just downloaded before; it only shows the correct preview once I have opened the file manager on my OS; after doing that the file preview is up to date again. (basically, it only shows the correct file preview when I viewed the files on my desktop before opening the download window and will not keep up to date with the most recent changes on its own like it does on Windows for example)
