thank you for your time & expertise:) Can you please help me understand what would happen if firefox stops supporting windows 7 users. Will i still be able to use the browser - just with less security? I will probably have to give up using a computer if I cant continue with Windows 7 so I'd even be prepared to pay an annual fee to keep the support going. I tried accessing Peacock but was told they only support version 127+. I checked my version is 115.xxx but says browser is up to date. What is going on?

I installed Firefox ESR today since the website said I should use it on my older operating system (10.14.6/Mojave).

Unfortunately, it fails to fully launch - the menu bar is grayed out.

I re-installed. No help.

I restarted. No help here either.

I stupidly trashed my older version - the one that actually worked, so now I am searching for an older Firefox that actually WILL work. Any suggestions?

TOPIC: Extended Support for Firefox 115 ESR

First, let me extend a hearty thank you to everyone on the Mozilla team and in the community that is continuing work on 115 ESR. This is helping a number of people that cannot upgrade for various reasons.

115 ESR is the last hope for many who are stuck on macOS 10.12-10.14 or Windows 7-8.1. While these systems are considered *very* out-of-date (users who are still on them are often chastised) they have a place. macOS for example, completely removed any and all support for 32-bit software as of macOS 10.15 ("Catalina"). I have encountered people with needs for 32-bit to run older apps and so they often keep a system running 10.14 ("Mojave").

Now, can old 32-bit configurations be kept around and isolated offline? Yes. But for some out there who cannot afford to upgrade, or cannot be with out specific 32-bit software, they would be forced offline completely (assuming they follow best security practices, which many do not). I have personally deployed 115 ESR on a number of systems to help people in this situation.

For the time being, ESR 115 is permitting these users to stay online with some degree of security, at least where web browsing is concerned.

QUESTION: Besides active user count, what other factors are keeping 115 ESR in active security-only support mode?

I was on the ESR channel and after the recent updates to 142.01 or 141 the ESR is missing from the about Firefox. I had got the tab groups option a few updates back and liked it. This latest update changed how a tab group collapses, instead of showing only the tab group name and collapsing all the tabs it leaves one open wasting space when I have several other tabs open. At least I don't see any sign of the annoying AI junk getting in the way yet. I thought you had a choice to stay on the ESR channel according to this link and others. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-support-windows-10-end-support I'll probably be forced to update to Windows 11 to do my taxes next year but I thought at least I could stay on the ESR channel to avoid new features getting in the way.

My Firefox 78.15.0 ESR on my 2009 desktop iMac is corrupt. I removed everything to do with Firefox and attempted to re-install. Cannot find this Firefox version on your website. HELP, please………..

So, as has been announced, FireFox 115 ESR will get updates until septempber 2025. This deadline has been extended multiple times. What factors are being taken in consideration when deciding whether to extend support again? With server 2008 updates you can get windows 7 up to date until 2026, sort of. Ending support in september would still be sad, because people too stubborn or not willing to upgrade probably still wont when support of firefox ends. I am a firefox on windows 7 user myself too, and it would be sad if they dropped support. Ill have to use a backported fork by the community

So thats my question, what factors matter in terms of extending 115 esr support again?

I am aware that Windows 10 will continue seeing support for the foreseeable future, but what about older versions and builds of 10?

I ask because I'm currently on a machine that physically can't update beyond version 1909 build 18363.1198 due to an issue that occurred on my machine in November 2020. So I've been stuck at that version and build of 10 for basically the last five years. While I'm trying to see if I can update it to 22h2, the last known version of Windows 10 with the hopes of enrolling in the extended security updates, that may not be feasible due to how old the mahcine itself is. Will Firefox continue to support all versions of 10 for the foreseeable future and not just those on the ESU? If so, great. If not, what version will be the last that can support the version I'm on? I don't have a Windows 11 machine yet on a full time basis (I'm testing an 11 machine out, but I may not end up keeping it) and I prefer 10 to begin with, so I would like to know when I need to stop updating Firefox itself, so that I can be sure I'll be able to keep using the browser with my current OS.

I have Windows 7 which is not supported now (older Toshiba laptop). firefox suggests using Firefox ESR 64-bit. I think it downloaded, but not sure. What can I do about this and be able to use it?

I'm using Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa). Firefox version is 78.7.1 esr-linux amazon. I want to update to the latest Firefox that would work with this version of Linux Mint. It seems maybe this can't be done anymore. Looking at Firefox software on the machine, it says it's Up to Date. I really still want to update it. I know Mint 17.3 is really old and will replace it. Firefox does work, but I'm now getting sluggish Internet because Firefox can't handle all the security requirements. So many web pages don't very well anymore. Can someone help?

Because the economy, inflation, and lower incomes are still a major problem, many users like myself need to continue using old computers that can only run Windows 7. So we need Firefox ESR 115 to continue being supported with updates for at least a couple more years.

There are no OS updates available for my computer hardware (nor have there been for quite a few years), just to quash that right off the bat.

The last release for 10.11 is 78.15.0esr (64-bit).

A number of websites do not load or outright refuse to load (the whole cloudflare hosting system, imgur, daily motion, youtube nags about it, even the login system for mozilla support renders quite oddly).

So I'm requesting an updated release. I realize there may be limitations due to libraries that have similarly abandoned 10.11. Thanks.

Firefox does not work with many websites any more. I constantly get notifications from websites telling me I need to update my browser. I am not able to download many forms and some videos no longer work. I've tried to update but I'm on some ESR & still get notifications that my browser is not supported by many websites. I have windows 11 (chg from 10 in March 2025), 64 bit but it says my system is not sufficient & that I'm running windows 8 which I am not. I have made the decision, after over 10 yrs using Firefox, that I'm going to move everything to Chrome. I HATE that I have to do this but I can't get any support/help from Mozilla or firefox to correct whatever the problem is. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate. Done

I am getting a lot of web client exceptions with version 141. How Can i go back to version 139. This is for my work software. I have no power to make changes to the software. If I can go back an not have automatic updates that would be great. Will I have to delete firefox and download an older version.
