Firefox should be more compatible without blaming others.

While writing this same note, or an email or text, suddenly the screen turns dark and freezes, impeding to edit or recover the work. When clicking Control Shift R , screen/server refreshes and work lost.

Kindly assist and solve this issue. I uninstall and reinstall with no avail, problem persists.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Does this occur when you have paused working? Another user reported that the screen would fade if they stopped typing or moving the mouse for a time, and a Windows 8.1 user reported that the scrollbar would vanish after some period of inactivity and focus seemed to shift away from Firefox (the page needed to be clicked to restore Firefox to normal). Mysterious.

Thanks for your reply. Freezes also while working on an email. Not only that, when I installed Firefox and clicked on the icon, it goes to : http://fixyourbloodsugar.com/?sid=bt1104

I think I might not use this browser anymore if it does not get fixed by Firefox staff

It's disturbing that you get ads just starting up the browser. Where did you download Firefox from? Unfortunately there are some unauthorized modified versions promoted in search engine results...

Some things to check:

  1. Home page -- Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings
  2. Extensions (more detail below)
  3. Malware -- Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware
  4. Program shortcut (more detail below)

Extensions

Add-ons, and particularly extensions, can override your settings in Firefox's normal dialogs. Use the Add-ons page to review and disable or remove ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the add-ons page and click the link as the last step.

Program Shortcut

Not sure exactly how you do this on Windows 8.1, but on earlier versions:

right-click the shortcut you use to start Firefox > Properties > Shortcut tab

Check the "Target" line and make sure there is no URL at the end. By default, the target ends with

firefox.exe"

with no URL after it.

I don't know if its a clue or not, i have installed a screenshot add-on "qSnap" recently.

Hi himzzy, are you getting the same problem? Have you tried disabling that extension for a while to see whether that resolves the issue?

Yes, I had tried that with disabling that add-on but issue was still there but when I ran Firefox in safe mode it worked.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

Thanks cor-el, I'll try that and get back to you very soon.

I tried disabling one extension at a time and then i got that "Ginger - Grammar and Spell Checker 2.0.0.24" causing the issue.
