UPDATE

This is a known issue ^{bug 789743 &} that is in the process of being fixed.

It is safe to ignore, anyone with this problem needs to take no action, in due course after further Firefox updates this should be corrected.

The problem is with the update procedure and the resulting registry entries. In fact only one copy of Firefox will exist (unless for other reasons already had multiple installs).

This should not happen. You only need the one copy of Firefox, and normally this is taken care of in the upgrade or install process.

Although you may remove the older copy that is not needed you should take care when doing that, otherwise you could loose some of your information. editIt is good to remove the old copy because that old version could otherwise cause problems.the old version will no be there

Firefox installs on Windows in two parts, one part is the program files that make Firefox work. The other part is the Profile that contains all sorts of user information and settings, this includes any passwords and your bookmarks for instance, and you probably do not want to loose that.

Do NOT use any option that says anything like remove personal settings.

FIRST although not strictly necessary it is a good idea to back up your Firefox profile. (That is a good practice in any event, periodically backing up the profile in case anything goes wrong).

  put the folders and files somewhere safe outside the Firefox paths (The Windows Vista desktop will do for now)

If you wish to be extra safe, you could even download a spare copy of the Firefox 15.0.1 installer, (again you could leave it on the desktop where you can easily find it) in case for instance you removed both or the wrong copies.

NEXT you can just go ahead and uninstall Firefox 15.0 from the Vista control panel. Remember not to remove personal information.

I Removed 15.0 and had to reinstall the program again Normally it would replace itself apparently not on this version. However if you uninstall and reinstall only 15.01 shows up

Just to let you know when I reinstalled the program no information was lost. all of my settings are the same including the home page.

I have now modified my original post.

There is no need to take any action in these cases. The installation process has gone wrong, and it is a known issue. You will not have both copies installed. The problem is that the registery entries are misleading due to a bug.

The installation process is being changed to correct this problem, and to prevent it happening in future.

I have taken the liberty of marking this post as a solution. (I will add information to the related posts later, this is my lunch break, if no one else does so first)
