Bookmarks are missing from both my list and bookmark tab and I don't know if this was caused by plugin or due to lack of space in my internal HD. Please help?
Dear Community, I promise I'll try to be as concise as possible. I'm really desperate for help! I've read absolutely everything about missing bookmarks, but as you will see my problem is also about cursors and Google showing differently on screen.
It all started this day I was running short on storage space in my internat HD. Suddenly my computer showed that I had 0 KB available, and I just deleted some big mov files and restarted the computer. After the reboot, I opened FF and noticed that my bookmarks were missing and so was my reading list - my reading list is stored with the help of ReadItLater plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/read-it-later/). I tried to google solutions for my problem and realized that something was weird with the way results were displayed.
So, I made some screenshots because it's really hard to explain what's going on by writing, so please take a look:
1. When I first open my FF, if I click on ReadItLater, I get this error message (code 0x80570016): [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869970/]]
2. Then if I click on any link on the page, and go back to check my ReadItLater list, I can open it without getting an error message but still NO READING LIST is shown. Image: [[click here|http://flic.kr/p/cj2gPm]]
3. Now take a look on how Google is displaying results on FF! The text appears in Black/Green when it's really supposed to be displayed in Blue/Green/Black! The cursor is also messed up: when I try to click one of the links with the arrow, it turns into a type cursor instead of the usual hand or clicking cursor! Please see the image: [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869468/]]
4. Here's a screenshot of the same Google search but this time done on Safari. Compare it with the previous image: [[click here|http://www.flickr.com/photos/81007892@N07/7423869252/]]
Any help will be much appreciated. I've already tried to reinstall FF again, and I've also deleted it and reinstalled FF but I never deleted profile/personal info that is in the Library Folder. Also, have tried to back up and replace the profile folder but my computer didn't allow me. I got a message saying it was not possible to copy the places.sqlite-wal file. I have done a search about it and I can say I never had a profile duplicate. Please help? I'm desperate and I can't lose my reading list or my bookmarks!
Thank you, Firefox community!

Please see this.
Your suggestion worked partially. I got it back the way it was but NO ReadItLater. I'm afraid I lost my reading list... it was stored in my computer only and not in the online server provided by ReadItLater. Do you - or anyone else reading this - have any idea on how and if it's possible to recover that list? Really important things in it! Please let me know, dear community.
The Reset Firefox feature resets the profile to the defaults. You have to install the add-on again and restore any extra files from a backup. You can also try to contact the ReadIt Later support regarding it's storage files/sync data, and restore it from the sync or the disk backup.
Hi again dumdidadida,
What I've just realized: after the reset, firefox created two profiles :( Now I'm gonna have to go through that process of replacing one with the other... A bit scared of losing my readitlater list :/ As I said, I tried backing up my first profile folder, but the system didn't let me backup the folder because of the places.sqlite-wal file. Have you ever gone through this process? Thanks!
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:
Hello dumdidadida and cor-el,
Problem SOLVED! Yay, victory at last. After dumdidadida's suggestion to reset the browser, I got it running as before but without the ReadItLater plugin. I looked into the Profile folder and find out I had a duplicate profile. This happened a little before dumdidadida had sent me his second message as you all could see by my previous reply. When I got back to the forum, my problem was already solved: I just pasted the contents from the older profile into the folder of the recently created one. The only file I couldn't paste was the places-sqlite-wal. I supposed that file was corrupted anyway. Now, just after reading cor-el's reply, I think I'm right.
So yeah folks, if you have the same problems as I did (messed up cursor icons, google results displaying text in black and green, missing bookmarks in addition to messed up/missing readitlater bookmarks), all you need to do is reset your browser and paste the contents from the older profile into the new one (replacing files with the same name). Thank you community! Problem solved!
You can probably fix your old profile by removing all places files as suggested in the articles that I posted above without the need to create a new profile.
I didn't create the new profile on purpose... when I followed dumdidadida's suggestion - resetting FF - I realized the reset created the new profile. But thanks for your help! It's always good to learn more!
Yes, reset creates a new profile and tries to import some settings from the old profile leaving the old profile intact.
I have this problem as well. I have tried reinstalling firefox numerous times. I have tried resetting firefox. Copying files from a previous profile to the new one did not work. Although the earliest profile available was from a time when I was already experiencing a problem.
I tried deleting all the profiles in the hope that firefox would simply make a new one the next time i installed it, but I was unable to open the browser at all. So I just restored the old profiles.
I am at a loss of what to do. Firefox is the only browser with noscript capabilities and I have been using internet explorer in the meantime and feel very exposed.
I also tried the maintenance add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/ but when I tried to run it, it just took forever and never completed its task I had left it running for almost 2 days.
Did you try to delete all the places files?
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You are a life-saver! You replied within like a minute and with those 9 words "Did you try to delete all the places files? " My problem was solved! I am overjoyed!
I deleted places.sqlite, places.sqlite.corrupt, places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal.
These were the only 4 places.sqlite files in the profile folder.
Thank you so much! It is a relief to be able to use noscript again.
