I tried. Not real computer saavy, so I don't know if I did it right. I am so bummed, I love Mozilla.

Reinstall Firefox by downloading a new copy. (Go to www.mozilla.org/firefox with another browser and click the green "Get Firefox" button.)

If Firefox still crashes when you try to start it, make sure that "Tell Mozilla about this crash ..." is checkmarked in the Mozilla Crash Reporter window and then click on "Quit Firefox".

Next, try to start in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode:

1. Hold down the Shift key while your double-click the Firefox icon.
2. You should see a "Firefox Safe Mode" window. Click "Continue in Safe Mode".

Does Firefox open and run in Firefox Safe Mode??

If you can run in Firefox Safe Mode, enter about:crashes in the address bar to get a list of Submitted Crash Reports. Click on the most recent crash report link and, when the report is finished processing, copy the link from the address bar and post it here. If you have trouble posting the crash report link, go back to the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article where it explains how to copy just the bp-xxxxxx crash ID, step by step.

If Firefox does not start even in Firefox Safe Mode, post back for more help or try to follow the last section in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article, to find the crash report ID on your computer (maybe you can get someone at home to help you?)

Did you try to start in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode?

Yes I did :(

See if you can find a crash ID on your computer. Here is an easy way that works for me, on Windows 7:

  1. Click the Windows Start menu button
  2. Type this in the "search programs and files" box at the bottom:

%appdata%\mozilla

You will see a list of folders show up at the top of the menu. One of them will be

Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Click on that. You will see a list of .txt files with names like
bp-2de07d12-0cde-45b2-a555-2d2d72111011.txt

Double-click the one with the most recent "Date modified". It will open a window showing, for example,
Crash ID: bp-2de07d12-0cde-45b2-a555-2d2d72111011
so just copy that text here.

If you can do that, we can figure out why Firefox crashed.

Sorry to be such a pain. I really thank you for taking your time to help me. I am just lost without Mozilla.

Here is the crash report:

Firefox 9.0.1 Crash Report [@ nsThread::Dispatch(nsIRunnable*, unsigned int) ]
Related bug: 617045 RESOLVED WORKSFORME startup crash [@ nsThread::Dispatch(nsIRunnable*, unsigned int)]

The bug report isn't too helpful. Some of the crash report comments mentioned the problem started after a System Restore; others mentioned babylon.

Hopefully someone else can take a look at this crash and help you.

The comments about this happening after a system restore could mean that there is something wrong with the Firefox installation folder. So I think the next thing you can try is to remove the Firefox folder from your computer (this won't remove your bookmarks or other customizations) and then reinstall Firefox.

  1. Delete the Firefox installation folder which is located here by default: C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox.
    • The 64-bit version is located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Use another browser to download firefox from mozilla.org/firefox
  3. Run the Firefox installer that you downloaded.

Post more of the recent crash IDs, in case the one you posted didn't cover the issue.

The problem could also be other software (or malware) installed on your computer. What security software are you using? For example, these security applications have been known to cause Firefox startup problems:

  • McAfee SiteAdvisor component of McAfee's Internet suite
  • ThreatFire
  • Trusteer Rapport
  • ZoneAlarm ForceField (if enabled during a Firefox update)
