How do I close firefox 3.6.10 when it is running in backround and I can't see it?

I hope this is just a problem with Firefox . It is running in the backround and since I can't see it I can't shut it down. It is not in Task Manager Applications. There are 2 firefox.exe in the processes window but both have 00% usage. I tried Safe mode but got nothing. Uninstall says I need to close firefox first. Have not had any problems with firefox before except for slow loading probably due to Norton.

Did you look on the Processes tab in the Task Manager?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application

Check in the Task Manager (XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC, Processes tab) if there are hanging Firefox processes.
If you see any firefox.exe processes then click the End button to end those Firefox processes.
