Private windows feature not working

I have firefox configured to always run using private mode by default. However sometimes i need a new private window with empty localstorage, sessionstorage and cookiejar etc. For example if i want to sign into a website with two separate accounts such as an email client. However, recently, when i click "New private window" and within it navigate to a website I see my preexisting session from my original firefox instance. In the case of the email client this means I can only log in using a single account with the firefox browser. Currently I have to open another browser such as chrome or edge to solve this issue.

Is this expected behaviour or is there something wrong with my local setup?

Thanks

That's how it works you can't sign on with the same browser to the same accounts twice. Private Mode data still active even if you open a new tab or window. Unless you close then all the data will be cleared. You have to use Chrome or Edge to open a new email but sometimes they detected and will logoff one or the other login to allow a different Browser to login.

The email client was just an example my actual use case is different but the concept is the same. As i work as a tester in IT with firefox being my browser of choice I'd expect that each time you click "New private window" you recieve a blank browser window without any session data such as cookies and javascript storage because otherwise the window isnt private at all. Im guessing this is a bug, if not can i raise a feature request?

Just like the standard Browser as long as it's open session cookies will be saved in either Private or Standard Browser. Only difference in PM is that when closed everything cleared when closed and in Standard depending on how the settings for AutoFill/AutoSave/History saves then any data will clear or not clear. So it's up to the user how they want to use the Browser and Browser features.

All PB mode windows share the same PB mode cookie jar, you can only get a clean storage state by closing all PB mode windows what obviously is not possible in permanent PB mode. Note that containers do not work in PB mode, so it is either use containers in normal mode open PB mode windows in normal mode.

I am not sure, but is there a commandline solution here? Maybe using the "-new-instance" flag? Or is there a way to run two profiles at once?

You can use the -no-remote command-line switch.
