Firefox Crashing Multiple TImes a Day

I'm not entirely sure what happened but I know earlier this year in as recent as July Firefox was working fine. I don't know if it was an update or what it was but now Firefox is consistently crashing multiple times a day.

There's never an error code but one of a few things happens:

  • The entire application will freeze and not let me control Firefox at all. I need to launch Task Manager to close the browser and then sometimes reset my computer to ensure it doesn't happen again.
  • With the most recent update, some of my emails on GMail (not all just some random ones) will not load in any capacity.
  • The browser will flicker white and will hide the top bar of the application so I can't close it without task manager.
  • The application will slow down and then crash with a "Do you want to send this report to Mozilla?" and I always click yes.

I have tried disabling and removing all extensions, I've tried firewall stuff, I've tried everything I can find but the browser is only getting worse in my experience. With this last update everything loads a few seconds slower than usual as well.

Is there a solution I am missing or am I doing something wrong? I am very very close to switching browsers but I'd rather not if there is a fix.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thank you for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Hi there, thank you for your responses. I know this is several months after my initial post but my fiance and I are both still having problems on two different Windows 10 computers. We both have the most recent versions of Firefox 64-bit and after trying all of the troubleshooting options mentioned here several times we are still experiencing daily if not hourly crashes.

For me, it happens almost consistently when trying to go through some of my emails on Gmail or access the backend of a WordPress website. It will also just happen randomly when trying to load websites that usually work. I've tried everything listed here and in other forums and we've had no luck in resolving the issue.

What security software are you running on both computers? Can you run a VM to test Firefox? You can also try Windows Sandbox if you're running Win Pro. https://www.howtogeek.com/399290/how-to-use-windows-10s-new-sandbox-to-safely-test-apps/

Is there a reason for that version of Firefox?

We are just running the default Windows security software. Nothing 3rd party. I will give the Virtual Machine and Windows Sandbox a try and post back here if it works.

We are running 64-bit because we are both running 64-bit Windows on 64-bit CPUs.
