I have TB on my PC and I want to use the same account settings and login information on my laptop. The laptop is currently using an AOL account, which I want to replace with the PC's TB account. How to do it?

TIA for your help. SweetTasha

Your request is unclear. You reference the email client (thunderbird) on PC, but you reference an email account (AOL) on laptop. Are you saying that you use AOL on both, but it's a different email client on laptop? Or are you saying that the account on PC is accessed with TB is other than AOL, and you want that account to be also used on the laptop?

using an AOL account, which I want to replace with the PC's TB account By "replace" I mean use TB instead of AOL. I will read the AOL account at the AOL website, not with TB. Does this clarify?

Thanks for your reply. SweetTasha

I still have no idea what you want. However, I will assume you want the same profile available on laptop that is on PC. If so, here are the steps: - exit thunderbird on PC - locate profile at c:\users\<yourID>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird - copy that folder to a portable device, such as a USB stick. - on laptop

     install Thunderbird
then copy the profile to c:\users\<yourID>\appdata\roaming on laptop. This will overwrite existing files

- start TB on the laptop and you should see the same account as on PC.

David,

I am seeing TB on the laptop. However, when I try to send an email from the laptop, it stalls copying the message to sent folder.

I'm thinking that because it stalls while trying to send, the problem lies outside of TB per se, like the server. Let me know what I can do to troubleshoot.

Thanks. SweetTasha

Does the send notice ever complete? From your earlier posts, does this account work properly on your PC, but not on the laptop?

David, I let the send run for 10-15 minutes. It never sent. The account works fine on the PC.

Here's my plan: 1. I think I should start over from the beginning. Port the TB settings following the instructions you already gave me. 2. The AOL account may be part of the issue. How can I remove it from the laptop?

Thanks for your help. SweetTasha

I think you're running Thunderbird on PC and laptop. The TWC account is on the PC and an AOL and TWC account are together on laptop. Is that correct? Or is AOL also on the PC? My suggested approach assumed that TWC was the only account on Thunderbird. I don't think AOL is involved. However, if you want to remove it, go to tools>accountsettings. Then, highlight the AOL account and lower in left column is a menu 'Account Actions' with an option to delete account. Following my suggestion would only be plausible if whatever accounts are on the PC you want on the laptop. But another option is to carefully review settings on both to see if there are any differences.

David,

In order to "start from scratch", I decided to exit TB on the laptop and restart it after downloading the ProfileS (I didn't find a file named Profile but I did find one named ProfileS. Is that the file I want to use on the laptop?)

I closed TB on the laptop, thinking that was necessary when starting from scratch. But it asks for the password for mail.twc.com and I don't know it.

I tried using the password in Saved Logins but that doesn't work. See images.

When it asks for the password it gives the option to change it. Seems like that would cause a problem, because the email address will be the same on both computers, right? Thanks for your help. SweetTasha

My earlier post explained how to download the profile. It's name would not matter if you copied the folder named Thunderbird. That had everything in it. If you do have the folder named Thunderbird, you can activate it by these steps: - exit Thunderbird on laptop - copy the Thunderbird folder to c:\users\<yourID>\appdata\roaming. That will overlay existing files and folders, but that is the intent. - now restart Thunderbird and it will have exactly the same setup as desktop pc.

You stated: If you do have the folder named Thunderbird Folder where? On the PC or on the laptop?

Please answer my question: When it asks for the password it gives the option to change it. So Will it ask for a password? If YES, then I need help to where to find that. If NO, the please reply with that answer.

Thanks. SweetTasha

The folder named Thunderbird would be the folder you copied from instructions I gave earlier, which I am repeating here:

exit thunderbird on PC

- locate profile at c:\users\<yourID>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird - copy that folder to a portable device, such as a USB stick. - on laptop

    install Thunderbird
then copy the profile to c:\users\<yourID>\appdata\roaming on laptop. This will overwrite existing files

- start TB on the laptop and you should see the same account as on PC.

If prompted for a password, it means that whatever password you have on Thunderbird, it's the wrong one. You may need to log into your web host account to request a fresh password.

If you are using V102 you can export your existing profile using the tools menu and then import it onto the other device.

Ok, I'm at my end. Your original post said you wanted to run TB on your laptop, and now you say you don't. Good luck.

Matt and David,

The notification that a response had been made to my question brought me to David's response not Matt's. My response would have been different had I read Matt's in chronological order.

Let me summarize the stumbling block up to now. The approach so far has been to set up a new SMTP password from the laptop side and tell Spectrum on the PC to accept that. But on the PC, Spectrum doesn't accept the password I set up on the laptop. Their support says they can't help me with TB issues.

The EXPORT feature is new to me. I will try that and report back my results here.

When I read David's response ahead of Matt's (which suggests that another approach is possible), my response was more of a "I give up. I've done everything you asked me to do..." on my part.

I've used TB for many years and few issues, if any, have remainded unresolved. I understand how ususual this level of support is--even for a pay-for product. I just want readers of this reply that to understand that I'm not dissatisfied with TB support. TB is the only email client that I want to use.

So, to get back on point. I will try the export/import approach.

Thanks for you help. SweetTasha

I have the Export on a flash drive. What do I need to do with it on the laptop?
