Marquis takes over, can't remove it

- Marquis has colonised my search page. - I used to be able to get rid of it temporarily by going into troubleshoot mode and going through that whole process twice - oddly, it never worked first time. - Now that doesn't work. - I can only get to my DuckDuckGo homepage via my bookmarks, which means I can't have more than one page open at a time. Firefox opens by default in Marquis. - I downloaded paid-for antivirus software with no results, so I'm reluctant to get anything else unless I'm sure it will work. - I notice that several people on this thread and elsewhere have reported this intrusion. - Does anyone know what to do about it??

Hi

Do you have any details as to what "Marquis" is? Is it a website (what is the address)?

Are you able to share a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Hi Paul,

Thank you for responding. Here's details of what Marquis is:

https://macresearch.org/what-is-search-marquis/

Nothing suggested here or elsewhere seems to get rid of it. I've attached a screenshot - this is what I see when I hit Firefox, and the only way to get to my DuckDuckGo page is via my bookmarks. From what I've sen elsewhere it seems to be driving everyone bonkers!

Any ideas gratefully received!

best Tessa

p.s: that screenshot doesn't seem to be attached: I have tried again, but the upload is ongoing and won't complete. I'm basically 'in' Firefox, but the search engine is Marquis.

Have you installed any other apps recently or have installed apps from outside of the App store?

As a first step, you may wish to clear the browsing history. This support article will help:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-browsing-history-firefox-ios

Thank you. I haven't downloaded anything new to my knowledge.

I can't clear the browser history because the screen I'm seeing when I open Firefox isn't Firefox - it's Search Marquis. So the instructions on how to clear browsing history in Firefox can't be followed..

Please can you share a screenshot of what you are seeing.

Hi Paul, I realised in fact I could get into my browsing history, at least the day's history. Yesterday I tried clearing it completely, with no result. Attached is the Marquis page that comes up whenever I open Firefox.

Ah, so this is not in Firefox for iOS, but Firefox on a desktop computer.

I recommend that you follow the guidance in this article:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

No, it's a laptop, a MacBook pro 10.13.6.

I'll try the article you suggest, thank you.
