I installed an extension from a website(not from addons.mozilla.org) and found it a bit suspicious so after around using it for 1 minute immediately removed it... So will an extension be able to access root/admin permissions if it had some malicious script executed(I am using debian) or can extension access system files, modify, delete or install/download anything without the users' permission?

Thanks in advance AVC

What is the add-on you are talking about, and where did it come from?

Add-on questions should be posted in the add-ons forum; https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/c/add-ons

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed free to use malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

The extension got flagged as dangerous. The link from which it was downloaded is this https://www.swagbucks.com/extension

Have you posted in the add-ons forum?

Since this is not an addon from addon.mozilla.org should I ask this question in the forums?

The add-ons forum has developers that are in a better setup to figure this problem out.

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or developers. If you want to leave feedback for developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select either Share ideas and feedback… or Submit feedback…, depending on your Firefox version. Alternatively, you can use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

You can also file a bug report or feature request. See File a bug report or feature request for Mozilla products for details.
