New version deleted ALL my previous files

New version of thunderbird installed itself today, with what appears to be total devastation of all my previous and saved correspondence. ALL files and folders that were on my computer are now gone, including travel documentation. How can this be recovered.????? None of the imformation provided by you indicated that this could happen as a result of updating. At this point I am beyond angry and upset, with what I believed was a organization that could be trusted.

Do you use Avast or AVG security software? If so:

Earlier today there was a false positive detection for a critical settings file for both Thunderbird and Firefox named prefs.js. It is possible to restore this file from the Avast/AVG quarantine to overwrite the useless replacement TB would have created when you started it. That should reconnect TB with your mailboxes.
