Windows 10 Firefox 77.0.1 64-bit

I've selected "Always ask you where to save files" in options. When I attempt to download a file, the dialog box appears.

The filename flashes several times, rapidly.

None of the controls work.

I can't change directory, save, or cancel.
I can only close the window.

If the "Save files to" is selected there is no problem saving.

I have not modified it from the default "Downloads"

To resolve this I have: Disabled protection software Refreshed Firefox Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox

   Revo Uninstaller used.
   New Profile created.

Note: I attempted to load a snapshot of the dialog box. I ran into the same issue.

   I can select the file.
  Controls do nothing.
   I can't load the file.

I am at a loss. Help is appreciated.

The problem was an old desktop manager called Dexpot. One of the best, in my opinion. Apparently an update to Windows 10 happened that caused a conflict. At least that's what I've had to conclude.

Time to remove it and find another.

Thanks much for your help and patience.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks. The problem remains in Safe mode.

To add a little more detail, after the reinstall, nothing was added. Plug-ins, themes, and extensions are not present.

Did you do a clean reinstall? That means removing the Firefox programs folder.

I used Revo Uninstaller. It removes everything it can find associated with an application.

Did you get the installer from Mozilla? When did this problem begin?

Yes. It was downloaded from Mozilla.

It began about when the 77.01 update happened.

Another funny thing is missing cursors. It's been happening for a bit, but I've overlooked it. As far as I know it's during the same period. This reminded me of it. My apologies.

Note that this is not an attempt to bring something else up to address. It may be another symptom. I will file another help request if that's a better way to go. I'll also pay more attention to other things.

When I started to do this response and clicked in this box, the cursor was missing. (A vertical bar.) After clicking on Help->About Firefox it reappeared. I don't know if it appeared when the Help was clicked, the About... was clicked, or if the About box appeared. With vague memory, the symptom can appear anywhere. I've most noticed it when attempting to enter search strings.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox.
Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

In safe mode I can download from a secure website.

Apologies again. I should have tried that first.

That means one of the other programs on your system is the issue.
As a test, disable your protection programs.

Thanks. I should have checked Safe Mode first. Sigh. I'll update when the program is identified.
