I'm not sure what you mean by replay. Is that like the circling arrow icon at the end of a Youtube video?

Is there a particular site where you notice this problem? It might help to provide a link and describe how to quickly get to where the problem occurs.

Sorry for some confusion. I am a frequent listener of Radio New Zealand. I meant just listen live to https://www.rnz.co.nz/ On top of the page there is a speaker icon, which opens up another window, but despite showing the performance, no circling of the arrow, the speakers are silent. Using YouTube or a separate MS-Mediaplayer works just fine. It is the Firefox browser which creates the trouble. Trust this clarifies and any suggestions on this?

Hi Bernhard, does Firefox show the audio icon on the tab indicating it believes it is sending audio to Windows?

Assuming so:

Could you right-click the speaker icon in the lower right of the Taskbar and choose Open Volume Mixer (the wording might vary a bit but the item for the volume mixer). There should be a bar for Firefox showing audio levels as the system receives the audio from the browser. Do you see anything like that? Of course, if Firefox is muted at the system level, click the little speaker icon at the bottom of the Firefox column to unmute it. Sometimes the Volume Mixer shows Firefox is sending audio, but you can't hear it. Users have reported that Firefox sometimes becomes fixated on directing audio to a removed output device, such as a bluetooth headset. I can't recall the solution for that at the moment.

Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately the second audio icon in the address box is not shown. When I go down to the lower icon then, with the right mouse, I can only mute/unmute or control the volume. No other option given. So I am stuck again. And to clarify I have wired external speakers for the PC.

Any other suggestions or solutions? Thanks Bernhard

Hi Bernhard, if the audio icon doesn't appear on the tab, then most likely the player is not playing the audio.

After the popup window opens, could you immediately open the Network Monitor in the lower part of the tab? Not sure if any of the menu options will work, but the keyboard shortcut should always be available:

• (Windows) Ctrl+Shift+e
• "3-bar" menu button > Web Developer > Network
• (menu bar) Tools > Web Developer > Network

When you click the play button, Firefox should start listing all the files it is requesting, along with information about whether the request was successful. Example screenshot attached (I had to enlarge the window).

Does yours show the files being retrieved?

If your Firefox retrieves the files but no audio is generated, could you check the Console tab (along the top toolbar of the developer tools pane). Do you find any messages here indicating problems playing the media?
