I've applied a dozen filters. They work when I test them, but then they let through all the identified unwanted mail the next time I check my email.
Then the junk mail doesn't learn the junk mail address, after I've identified them as junk, and Thunderbird lets them through again!

Manual filtering junk/Spam is about as successful as closing the US/Mexico border. Lots and lots of resources for not much change, if any.
