I scroll slow but either way it still crashes, it doesn't happen on my other machines though....any suggestions?

My only other thought would be to reduce what loads on the page by using content filtering add-ons, such as ad blockers, tracking blockers, etc.

Do you think my Firefox profile is affected? Would that be the main reason I think I remember copy and paste from another PC (laptop) would that be the reason for the crashes I'm not sure if it was this PC or my other.

I don't want to reinstall Firefox because I'll lose my preferences, if it is my last resort , can I maintain these preferences like saved passwords, the new tab tile page etc...?

If you uninstall and remove personal data, you will lose those things, so make sure NOT to remove personal data if you decide to uninstall. But a basic uninstall/reinstall cycle generally doesn't change anything.

To get close to a "clean" setup without losing data, you can take the following approach (details follow):

(1) Do a "Clean Reinstall" of the Firefox program files (does not touch your settings) (2) Create a parallel settings folder, also known as a new profile (also does not touch your settings)

Here are the steps; it looks long, but the download step actually takes the most time.

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.0.5 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(3) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does FB still crash easily after this process?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

• \OldFirefox\Plugins
• \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox (if applicable) and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > Run, type or paste the following and press Enter:

firefox.exe -P

A small Profile Manager dialog should appear. Don't delete anything here!

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like TEST062815, and skip the option to relocate the profile folder. After creating the profile, select it and start Firefox in that profile.

Is the new profile more stable on Facebook?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

No, it says it's a shutdown hang, related to "MediaShutdownManager". I don't know what that is, but since there isn't any media playing on the forum, perhaps the crash was a delayed result of closing a different tab??

It looks like it doesn't crash as often as it had before but I do get a gray screen on Facebook now rather than a crash sometimes

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

• Clear the Cache and

• Remove Cookies
  Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

• Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
• Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Sorry for long time reply, I was very busy. i've done a clean reinstall and I'll see how it goes

For now it doesn't crash but I keep often getting a grey screen a lot , is this a common issue ? (on Facebook)

That looks like a background color? It's not normal for the FB home page to be blank, no. If you reload (Ctrl+r) does it fill in?

No I was browsing Facebook and I keep getting this grey screen

Hi FFUser2015ll, the latest crash is an "out of memory" error, meaning Firefox asked Windows for a chunk of contiguous memory and Windows said it wasn't available, so Firefox halted itself.

Since your system memory usage was only 67%, this was due to all memory being full, but sometimes memory becomes fragmented as different chunks are used and released. If there is a pattern of these OOM|small crashes, then I might have more to suggest, but an isolated one is hard to interpret.

Did it occur on Facebook? Due to endless scrolling, as you move down the FB feed Firefox needs more and more memory for the page, so perhaps this is more likely to occur on pages like that.

Ye that's what I've been doing, but weirdly it only crashes on this PC, whilst I've tried on many other PC's with the same spec O.o

I think I might just have to reinstall firefox clean idk

I've tried reinstall firefox and updated everything , checked for any viruses plugins , gpu drivers etc.... disabled addons , reset everything and problem is still there. Also I have noticed that Firefox uses a lot of memory like 1GB - 2 gb of ram. I assume this isn't my PC's fault?

In my experience, it's not unusual for Firefox to use 1-2GB of memory. Above 2GB it starts getting sluggish at some point and then I have to exit out and start it up again. But enough about me.

I'm not sure why you are getting the OOM crash. These can occur with any content, although huge pages/files are more likely to trigger it, and videos may add to the load.

Perhaps another volunteer knows how to gather more data on why the page is causing this problem.
