TB suddenly stopped receiving or sending emails after a Windows 7 update.

In late March 2015, after a critical Windows 7 update (or so it seemed), I suddenly could no longer send or receive emails using Thunderbird. After much research, checking settings, restarting in safe mode etc, I was forced to give up and simply use my ISP's webmail service. Yesterday (22nd April), I had a need to find an earlier email so I started TB for the 1st time in weeks. It loaded fine and downloaded all of the emails from the last month. I managed to send an email, too. Around 12 hours later - with no change to my system that I was aware of - it suddenly stopped again. What on earth is going on?.

I would guess you're anti virus. But it is truly a guess.

Perhaps there is a third party at work here. Did you have your phone or tablet turned off for that 12 hour period? or the part where Thunderbird got mail?
