hello theorgancollector, can you be a bit more specific what doesn't work (do you get error messages, etc...)?

Thanks for the reply. I can open up the sign in page of Hotmail, but when I enter my details and log in, it takes about 30 seconds and then says page unavailable and server can not be found.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I really appreciate the time you took to reply. Many Thanks. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I tried all this, with no avail, and randomly I tethered my phone to the computer and everything worked fine. I am now troubleshooting the issue with my ISP, they seem to think it is a modem issue, or something to do with the connection. I'll let you know what it is when we work it out.

I use the Windows Live Mail program.

In what way is Hotmail not working?

Are the pages incomplete or is nothing loaded at all?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB
