Printer Problems with Firefox

Firefox 86.0.1 (64-bit) Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon

Dell Printer 1355cnw

Using the 3 line Menu top right when you try to print using Dell 1355cnw unfortunately after a series of beeps it reports in the window:

No Suitable Paper 024-969 Printer load Paper then press (tick) Custom 0x0 mm

There is nothing wrong with the paper

I can print without problems to the same printer from Google Chrome. I've even installed Opera that also works perfectly without problems. Firefox is my favourite browser, don't want to desert. Could somebody please help. Many thanks Keith

Hi Keith, are you printing a PDF or is this for an ordinary web page?

Either way, a custom size of 0x0 seems wrong. It could indicate that Firefox's new print logic is not properly reading data from your printer about available paper sizes.

Any difference if you expand the "More settings" section of the print overlay and try changing the paper size between Letter and A4 and back again (if you prefer Letter)? I'm attaching a screenshot of where I find that setting:

Hi jscher2000, Many thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction. I checked the page details and they looked exactly as described. So i went back to Firefox menu on first page and found this, looks as if ive got a problem cups. Its beyond me. Could you have a look for me please. I can send you the complete file by email if required. Please let me know. Once again many thanks for your help. Kind Regards Keith.

Hi, I printed out the troubleshooting.txt schedulerNotRunning and I’ve found it’s trying to use an older printer I used to have, a Datamax E4304B which is a label printer “ no wonder it’s reporting wrong paper. I really surprised because this installation is on a another drive, new install. I assume that I have to replace this file. I’ve no idea how to do that?

Many thanks

Kind Regards

Keith

Hi Keith, I'm not very knowledgeable about printers, even on Windows. Hopefully someone else knows why Firefox might not be connecting to CUPS successfully.

I'm not sure it's relevant, but there is a way to make Firefox forget about an old printer that it may stored settings for. Possibly you already tried this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste datamax (or other part of unwanted printer name to match) and pause while the list is filtered

(3) To remove preferences for this printer, click the trash can icon on the right end of each row.
