It started 4 days ago. All of a sudden whenever I look up anything on bing I get between 20-28 results. Oddly it works fine on internet explorer but not on firefox. Also google works on firefox as well. I wish to continue using bing on firefox. How do i fix this?

It seems we have tried everything to avoid you seeing customized results based on what Bing knows about you, or what add-ons might be doing to the results. It also does not seem, judging from your screen shot, that you are getting mobile results, which may be shorter than results on computers.

That raises the suspicion that either your connection has been changed, or there is some other external filtering going on.

Could you check your Firefox connection setting here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your IE/LAN setting, but you also could try "No proxy".

Although it seems unlikely, it's possible that something has changed your Firefox program files. For that I suggest:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(3) Rename the program folder:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does a cleanly reinstalled Firefox search Bing normally??

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Hmm... Thats weird... Can you screen shot it... But an easy fix would be to just go and use Google. It is the best of everything. But it is you're choice!

Are you using the Firefox search bar, or opening the web page?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Any difference in a private window? That will bypass cookies and probably make Bing think you are just another random user. (I'm assuming you are not already in a private session...)

To try that, right-click this link and choose Open Link in New Private Window:

https://www.bing.com/

I am using the bing homepage. Firefox in safe mode does not work same with private window.

Do you mean that you get different results in Safe Mode, or a private window? Could you be more specific?

Bing is showing me "776,000 results" for your query. Note: I am not logged in to my Microsoft account when searching.

I get 10.500.000 results in Firefox 31 ESR via the search bar.

I do see "Narrow by language" and "Narrow by region" next to the number of results.

  • 10.500.000 results Narrow by language Narrow by region

Same results for safe mode and for private window and also when I am logged out of my account. And why would I use Firefox ESR for personal use? It's for business and schools isn't it?

The settings was already checked to no proxy and won't allow me to change it to anything else. I will try a clean re install and get back to you with the results.

The re-install did the trick. Thank you jscher2000. Appreciate the help!
