The "This Frame" context menu is missing

There are two users in question, both running Firefox 36.0.1 on Windows 7. When one user right clicks on a frame in a website, they have a "This Frame" context menu option, which cascades out to provide various actions you can take (Print This Frame, etc). The other user does not have that option. To the best of my knowledge, both users are running similar installs: the default collection of plug-ins that are enabled in our enterprise environment, they have not tweaked any settings in about:config, etc. Why would the "This Frame" context menu not be available for one of them? Is there any way to force it be enabled?

I found it....

I reread your posts this evening, and spent some time tinkering with Firefox on my home machine (36.0.3 on Win8.1). I was looking at my mailbox in OWA, which has a shared mailbox added as well. I discovered that messages in the shared mailbox Inbox did have the This Frame option in the context menu, while the messages in my personal mailbox Inbox did not.

A little back and forth comparison and I finally noticed it: my Inbox's List View was set to show Conversations By Date (see attached snapshot). In contrast, the shared mailbox Inbox had the Conversations view option deselected.

When the Conversations view option is turned off, OWA displays each message in the Reading Pane in a frame. When Conversations mode is turned, it appears to use CSS for the Reading Pane instead.

Thank you for your help getting pointed in the right direction.

Did they confirm that the page does have frames and that they are clicking in the frame and not in the main HTML file?

You can right-click on a web page and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer).

The page has frames (it happens to be the organization's Outlook Web App site). Each user logs in to OWA, has the same OWA setup:

Full OWA, not "Light" Same theme Reading Pane on the right side

There are no OWA Options, that I can see, that would affect this. Regardless, their OWA options are configured identically.

When right clicking on the same email in the Reading Pane (the same was sent to each), one user has the "This Frame" context menu selection, the other does not....

For what it's worth, when I use OWA, the message body in the reading pane is in an iframe and does have the This Frame menu.

Do you allow users to install extensions? To rule out the influence of extensions on the problem Firefox, you could have the user test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

He/she can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?

I have a similar problem, but not quite the same. I'm using Netzero for my email, and version 37.0.2 of Firefox.

When I right click within an email message that I am reading, sometimes I am given the option to "View This Frame Only", by clicking on this option.
Then the "reading window" becomes larger, and I can see the whole message at one time in one window, and can save it by itself as a file.
Then at other times, when I right click within an email message, I am not given the option to "View This Frame Only", as a separate window. That choice is now not there any longer, for this particular email message.
The next message I open might allow that option again. Who knows?
Why is this? How do I assure that I can view all of my email messages as a separate window ( frame ).
Why is this option available, only sometimes, and not all the time, and how do I set this option to be the "Default" all the time?
                                 Thanks for your time,

And why is the "Wordwrap" so screwed up on the message above?

Hi Ted_K, the wiki engine underlying this forum changes any line starting with a space to a scrollable pre-formatted (fixed-width font) line. You can edit your post to remove the leading spaces: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1053164/edit/725520

But... I hasten to add that NetZero probably is not using Microsoft's Outlook Web App for your mail site, so it would be better to start a new thread:

Hi Ted_K, I am not familiar with NetZero mail. You may want to post a new question as suggested earlier because this one is already marked as being solved (for Outlook Web App, no relation to NetZero).
