I cannot view any emails in my inbox only those in folders

I click on an email in my inbox (read) and it won't reveal the body copy just has the 'spinning' symbol. I have restarted computer several times and does not fix problem. I can however view emails that are in folders. I only have a few hundred emails in my inbox.
