Hello Mozilla Forums,

My homepage, the Google search page, turns black, they call it "dark Mode".....

I have been battling this problem for awhile now.

I have read the reply's to similar questions on this forum and the fix is only temporary. All the hits on, excuse me, ahhem, a Goggle search, are about chromium based browsers, tho some of those fixes worked, abet only for a short period of time.

I use a dark mode on Firefox in general, therefore if the site is not natively black then I need the white. This is also affecting YouTube too, my page is black there too. I assume the reason is YouTube is a Google entity.

I REFUSE TO HAVE GOOGLE DICTATE TO ME HOW I SET UP MY COMPUTER OR BROWSER !!

Please help me fight this corporate monster, Firefox stands for freedom.

I just noticed it today as well. Turns out it's Google Dark mode.

I tried to change to duck duck search, but that page too was in dark mode...

A contributor on this forum stated to use the colors/appearances section off the tools to change the color, and I think to a different setting that what i just tried, but since I cannot find that question and the accompanying answer I dont want to slander anyone in error, but I have set it to always and to white.

Hopefully the setting stays.

Issue resolved?

No.

I can turn dark mode off all day long. In fact I have turned it off, repeatedly.

But it keeps coming back on.

This post is about tuning it off PERMANENTLY. Once and done is the goal.

I am not affected. Perhaps your answer is here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1359881#answer-1465837

TNorth,

I am currently trying this out. Will report.

TNorth,

I cannot get that setting to say, it continually reverts back to 3, then dark mode quickly follows, followed by me bellowing and trying to throw my monitor out the window...

Any help to keep this setting would be greatly appreciated.

There could be several reasons for that, perhaps an add-on or a locked preference file. Have you tried creating the second preference mentioned? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save

more options

Well , I do not have the user.js file in my profile so I am going to save my bookmarks and list of addons and make a new FF install with fresh preferences

more options

That did not work, so I'm gonna open a new support ticket to find out why a fresh install will still not save changes to the about:config item "layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override" that TNorth has suggested and I have been screwing with for two days now.

WHY THE HELL IS MOZILLA GONNA OFFER A CONFIG ITEM THAT CANNOT BE CHANGED ?? AND HAVE A SUPPORT PAGE DEDICATED TO IT ??

A fresh install with no leftover registry items, no registry backup, and no restore point saved should have NO ISSUES WITH CHANGING THE ITEM IN ABOUT:CONFIG AND SAVING IT.

To whom do I complain? To whom will help me with this problem??

Between Mozilla, Google and Microsoft I might as well put a bullet in my head or should I just go the other way and become an Apple man... I am sure I would have something to complain about with Apple too so I should just go off the grid and and become a hermit....

I would not expect reinstalling to change the issue unless it gave you a new profile. The prefs.js file is in the profile folder. Do you have any software that could cause the problem? Since you have a Windows OS, malware could be an issue.

You could try creating a new profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

You could also consider troubleshoot mode. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode

A fresh install with no leftover registry items, no registry backup, and no restore point AND NO LOGIN on my account should have generated an new profile.

it is obvious at that this forum is unable to help me , the suggestions are either to technical or I am just so sick and tired point i am not willing to go the extra 100 miles to do that which will probably not fix the issue any way. Moderators can remove this post at their convenience
