Hi I've attempted to disabled the entire new block of 'Stories' but they continue to show up cluttering my screen. Why isn't 'disable' working? How can i get rid of everything except the search window and my single line of helpful links? Gary

Hi, I believe this is some kind of bug/issue after the latest browser update (as I've quite literally never had this issue before). I like my launch page not to be cluttered with nonsense, no widgets, no activity, just my standard pinned shortcuts and the google search bar. However, after the latest update, "stories" have been on and have stayed on (despite altering all the settings that should get rid of it altogether). Even after turning it off, it appears it turns itself back on immediately. I don't want to see this junk and shouldn't have to, no one should, I even went to the trouble of blocking all topics in hopes the thing would just vanish. It did not. I hoped to report this to Mozilla more directly but couldn't find a meaningful bug report option. If anyone else has encountered this or if anyone has a true solution, I'd like to hear it, thank you.

Interestingly, pressing Ctrl+Z immediately restores the missing first word, indicating that Firefox performs an undoable edit operation rather than simply ignoring the input. Expected result The first word should remain in the search field after pressing Space. Additional observations

   • The problem does not occur when typing in the Firefox address bar.
   • The problem does not occur on google.com or in other web page input fields.
   • The problem is reproducible in:

       ◦ a brand new Firefox profile
   • No third-party extensions are installed (only the built-in OpenH264 codec is present).
   • Setting

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSearch = false removes the in-page search field, therefore the issue disappears because the affected widget is no longer present.

   • Disabling

browser.search.suggest.enabled does not change the behaviour.

   • If the address bar already contains text before clicking into the New Tab search field, the issue may no longer reproduce. This suggests that the bug could be related to focus handling or interaction between the New Tab search widget and the address bar.

It appears the new update in Firefox has glitched my settings. Everytime I try to disable it on the homepage, and I reload it, it just turns itself back on. Settings not on the homepage does not help either. Nothing appears to work, although it has been working for many years until today.

My Firefox just updated and I'm now receiving the recommended stories (along with the widgets and recent activity.) when I open a New Tab. I was able to disable the widgets and activity and I see the place where I can turn off the Stories, but they are not going away.

In the "Customize" menu accessible via the pencil icon on the New Tab page, toggling Stories off does not make them go away; reloading the page, the toggle is re-enabled.

In the general Settings menu, accessible via the hamburger menu and under "Home and startup," I have Stories ("Exceptional content curated by the Firefox family") toggled off. The toggle does not reset, but the stories still display.

How can I fix this? Thank you all very much in advance.

I'm trying to remove the "recommended stories" section of the new tab page. Using the pencil button, I can toggle off the "recommended stories" button. But it doesn't stay off! After toggling off, if I open a new tab or even relaunch Firefox, the toggle is back on.

I've been relying on the checklist widget - but it has disappeared, along with my other timer & weather widgets. I see no way to get them back, either in Firefox settings or in the home page settings either.

I click on the website page and scan through things then close that website. Then I get on the search engine page an icon of that website I just looked through added onto the search page as an icon. I do not want this. I know how to add websites I frequently visit so its not that. It must be a setting somewhere in my Firefox settings. How do I switch this off?

I do not like the clutter of a score of articles chosen by AI on my home page. I only want a blank page the same shade of green I had before with the shortcuts I actually use. Your sponsors may give you money, but I'm not clicking on any except to get rid of them.

How can I get my clean hompage back?

I opened Firefox this morning and all of my pinned shortcuts have disappeared. Shortcuts are enabled in the settings. I checked the browser.newtabpage.pinned pref on the about:config and all of my pinned shortcuts are not there

Since the 153.0 update, the shortcut algorithm has dramatically worsened. First, it assigned too much weight and too sensitive to the recent visits, such that all of the top row in shortcuts are populated with random recent visited websites even though they are likely would never be visited again. Second, neither 'dismiss' or 'delete from history' would clear those unwanted shortcuts. Each shortcut seem to be on the URL level, not the domain. As a result I can never clear those random recently visited domains as I have to delete each single URL I visited. Please revert the algorithm to pre-152.
