TBird152.0 is not displaing HTML emails properly.
Windooze 11. TBird 152.0 installed on June 20th. Now it seems like TBird is not displaying HTML emails properly. They are displayed but not at the beginning. The first line is sometimes just the bottom half of a sentence in the email (if that makes sense). I can't scroll back to the beginning. If I go to outlook and display the same email it displays fine.
Did something change in 152.0 to cause this?
Thanks, Ed Mazurek

Maybe, if you post a screenshot of what you are seeing someone may have suggestions. Thank you
Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. The emails are internal so I redacted a bit so you can see what I mean...
This is a small part of the top of the email body. You can see that it has a header and shows just the bottom of the first line of text which you can read 'The following warning alert...'. The email body continues just fine from that point but a large chuck of the email that comes before what I showed is not there and I can't scroll back to it either. I can see the email correctly formatted if I view it in outlook.
I *think* it's a TBird problem but I'm not sure.
Thanks for having a look.
Ed
Puzzling. Does this happen for all emails or just this one? Have you tried reinstalling Thunderbird over the top of current installation, as there may be something corrupted? Are there any addons installed? Do you have any customizations in user.Chrome.css? I will see if I can get someone else to look at this.
Hi are you still having a problem. David asked some questions which would be useful to know the answers. Q: Did this occur in just that one email ? Q: Does this occur only in emails from that particular sender? Q: Does this occur in all emails?
If you choose 'View' > 'Message Body as' > 'Simple HTML' and also test 'Plain Text' Q: Are you able to read the entire email in both of those options?
TEST: Restart Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode
- 'Help' > 'Troubleshoot Mode'
- click on 'Restart' and select 'Continue in Troubleshoot mode'
Q: Are you now able to read the email properly?
Hi David and Toad-Hall,
Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for the late reply. Things have been very busy at work.
Q1: Does this happen for all emails or just this one? Just some of the emails from two specific senders. These are automatically generated emails from a couple different sources. Most, but not all, from these two sources display incorrectly. Q2: Have you tried reinstalling Thunderbird over the top of current installation, as there may be something corrupted? No not yet. Q3: Are there any addons installed? No addons except for Owl for Exchange. Q4: Do you have any customizations in user.Chrome.css? No. Q5: If you choose 'View' > 'Message Body as' > 'Simple HTML' and also test 'Plain Text' Q: Are you able to read the entire email in both of those options? When I select 'View' I see 'Toolbars', 'Layout' and 'Folders'. Where can I view the 'Simple HTML' and 'Plain text' options?
Looks like it just wanted to update so I let it. I'm now at 152.0.1 and it's still the same. I wanted to try and rollback to where I was a month or so ago but it looked like I needed to uninstall and reinstall again.
Thanks!
Ed
If menu bar is not visible at top, press the alt key to have it displayed. Then, click view >message body as >simple HTML. To retain the menu bar, just click view>toolbars and tick 'menu bar'
Hi David,
OK when I do View -> Message Body as -> Simple HTML I see the beginning part of the email is still missing. When I do View -> Message Body as -> Plain text I see the entire email (including the beginning) although a bunch of stuff is missing in between where I guess it's part of HTML and not displayed.
Does that help?
Thanks!
Ed
Toad-Hall is the more experienced person here. Follow his request regarding troubleshoot mode. Thank you.
