Forced to "Use strong password" instead of my saved password

Since the upgrade several days ago, I have not been able to select my saved password on some pages, instead I always see "Use strong password" to create a new one. I have not changed my password or anything, and can still see my account information in the saved passwords setting. How can I recover the way to input my password?

Apparently, if there are input boxes for both a username and a password on the page, my account is automatically set as before. Meanwhile, if there is only a password box, Firefox does not allow me to select my saved password.

The issue persists on the nightly build 132.0a1 Build #2016046215.

Make sure the website is entered correctly in the password manager. (Menu > Passwords)

@Khalid, thanks for your reply. I already ensured the web site is correctly entered in the password manager.

I believe the issue is a regression, since I didn't see the problem on version 129.0.2 Build #2016039455. I confirmed it just now.

Can you provide screenshot(s) of the issue?

I have uploaded three screenshots, one of which is the case where I have the problem.

Firefox may not be recognizing these because between the two screenshots provided, the URL is different. In the password manager, you can try setting the URL to something different.

@Khalid, I suppose you are referring to the 3rd screenshot, it's Google chrome, with which I didn't have the problem.

1st screenshot: Fail_FirefoxNightly_132.0a1#2016046407.png 2nd screenshot: OK_Firefox_129.0.2#2016039455.png

The URLs are same. Only the Firefox version is different. Version 129.0.2 worked as expected, while version 132.0a1 doesn't allow me to select my saved password.

The release note of 130.0 says,

  • Users now have the password generator feature available, which gives them the opportunity to use a strong, random, automatically generated password

I believe this new feature caused a regression.

The nightly version is the "unstable" build for testers. Make sure to use the normal version for day to day activities ;)

@Khalid, as I mentioned in the first message, the issue is seen on the normal release track, Firefox 130.0.1 Build #2016044751 on Android 14. I used the nightly version as well to just want to see if the latest one still has the issue.

Hi I found this thread late. Just checking back with you if a future release of Firefox fixed this bug you're seeing.

If not, we can definitely file a bug because that sounds like a regression for sure. I also noticed you said this only happens on some sites, not all. Is that still the case?

And if you're only being forced to use strong passwords on certain sites, I think it would help to keep a list of them & report them here so the Firefox devs can create accounts on those sites & test to see the problem happen for them as well. Then they can start debugging it on the spot.
