When deleting messages move to newer message

I keep my email in chronological order with newest message on top. When reading messages I start with oldest uneread message and read them in order. When I delete a message the focus goes to the next older message rather than as I want it to the next newer message. I have one computer where it behaves as I want, but I cannot figure it out on a new installation. Help
