Migration of mail from Local folder to Mail Inbox

Hi!! I have imported an mbox file in TB Local folder and have been trying to move them to my gmail inbox. However, I am encountering two problems and would really love if someone could help. 1. The upload only runs for some 139 mails and throws an error. Even if I keep redoing the copy, the number increases in multiples of 139 for like 4-5 times and then if the whole migration is left unattended for 1-2 hours, the count of mails copied to gmail comes down automatically. 2. Although my gmail inbox in TB reflects 400-500 mails, the gmail inbox actually when opened using a browser reflects only 94 mails.

Is the gmail account in Thunderbird set up as a pop or an imap mail account ?

  • Right click on gmail acount name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Server Settings'
  • top right 'Server Type' - does it say POP or IMAP mail server ?

If IMAP: Please note gmail do have limits on how much can be uploaded within a given period. So only upload less than 500MB per day. See additional info under the 'Causes' section at link below.
