I have lost all of my addresses in Thunderbird. How do I get them back?

I have been using Thunderbird as usual and 2 things have happened. I have lost my French and English spell check and worse, my address book has disappeared so I have to manually type the recipients email all the time. I'm a technical neophyte so any advice is greatly appreciated.
