When I open a new tab it used to show HISTORY but now it comes up with a weird site. How do I get back to the History?

I did not see a resolution to the question precisely. I have not loaded add-ons myself. Still do not see in options how to restore the history to a tab page.

Could you elaborate as per the weird site please ? What is the URL you are getting ? I would suggest starting here maybe.... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Yes, "weird" is very intriguing.

A common culprit for replacing the new tab page would be an extension. You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Sometimes a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

The malware scan is still a good idea, especially if you have no idea where some of your extensions came from.

The site it is using is: http://search.hemailaccessonline.com/?uid=1cb3a9a5-8cd4-47d3-bcf7-29988e50cdcf&uc=20170929&ap=appfocus1&source=googlesearch-googlesearch-v3-bb8&page=newtab&implementation_id=email_5.0.4.646

I did disable an add-in that had installed after I tried to access a GMail account but have not yet been able to restart Mozilla as I have on open page I want to continue to edit.

I think do as jscher2000 suggested above then still follow through with a Malwarebytes scan followed by a Malwarebytes ADWcleaner scan, new version released yesterday. https://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/AdwCleaner/1359131497/1 will redirect to original website https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1-adwcleaner/1189/ or go to the malwarebytes website.

If the issue still persists after finding something and fixing it post only in 1 (one) forum of your choice and wait.

This part makes me very nervous:

There were some scams going around to trick users into authorizing a third party application with a deceptive name like "Google Documents" to connect to your Gmail account. It then stole your contacts, etc. Please check your Google authorized app list and consider also changing your password if anything weird was added.

Fortunately I was actually on the GMail.com page so I am sure this is a clean add-on but will go down the malware scan as suggested above. Hopefully when I can close out Mozilla it will go away!

Suggest save what ever you are editing and find out as per jscher2000 last post ASAP. Also suggest change your Google password.

Closed down Mozilla and restarted and the error had gone away but downloaded the Malwarebytes and ran it too. Had a couple of PUPs in the system that I quarantined too.

Thanks guys

Hi jmkidd, I posted some comments in your thread here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1179900

Malwarebytes scan and removal cured my problem. Now solved for me.
