I need a way to disable url bar autosearch which actually works
Why would Firefox prevent me from correcting a mistyped URL ? It just doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't it be simpler to display a page explaining people how to use the search bar on a mistype instead? I found at least two alleged methods to disable it which don't work. And why would such a simple and obvious option not only be hidden that deep, but also have its name changed from time to time? If it is not possible to do so any more, in which reliable browser is it possible to get rid of it? Thank you.

Does it also correct misspelled searches for you?
Did you try to set this pref to false to disable autocomplete in the location/address bar?
- browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled = false
Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:
- click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
- highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key - press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

I didn't as I find this feature useful. Why would this option prevent the automatic search? Maybe you misunderstood me?
