Hello !

I wanted google.fr as homepage. I changed the value directly in "about:config" without installing any extension.

Now firefox autofocuses the url bar, forcing me to click on google searchbar. It doesn't seems logical to me, since there is a shortcut to focus on urlbar (Alt + D), that the focus goes there by default.

Is there a way to avoid this waste of ergonomy and time ?

Thanks for helping !

Ok, thanks for advice.

My goal was to hit Ctrl+T and instantly continue typing without taking my hands off the keyboard.

I wont click to open a newtab, I wont install any extens to say my browser it has to focus on the page i chose to visit... Thank you cap'tain obvious !

I'm still wondering why focus goes by default on address bar at homepage loading. It's not logical nor ergonomic. I'll double-load my homepage everytime, until a dev finds useful to add a boolean entry "browser.newTab.autofocusUrl" in about:config.

Thank you anyway Best

For the new tab page you can look at this extension.

Actually, I would like to avoid installing an extens for something like that.

I can't understand why the focus goes on the urlbar. Worse ! It doesn't even select the url. Just placing cursor at the end of it.

Can assume it's useful when homepage is about:blank, but otherwise...

Why focus doesn't just go in the page's body ?

I just found that hitting enter does the trick by refreshing the page.

Do I really need installing an extension to avoid loading every homepage 2 times ??

Thanks for your time

You can use a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar and middle-click (or hold Ctrl and left-click) that bookmark to open the page in a new tab.

The new tab page behaves differently when it comes to the focus. The default about:newtab page that when used has a search bar that gets focus. If you set a different page as the new tab page via the browser.newtab.url pref then the location/address bar gets focus and this bypasses JavaScript used on web pages like Google to set the focus to their search bar. The New Tab Tools extension has a setting to prevent this.
