Before I updated to Supernova, when I opened Thunderbird and there was an update available, a window would automatically open in Thunderbird showing the available update (screenshot attached), which allowed me to read the Release Notes to see what was being updated, before applying the update.

However, since updating to Supernova, this no longer happens.

I have always had my settings set to General / Updates / Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them and as I said, this worked until updating to Supernova.

So can someone tell me what I need to do, to get the update window opening automatically again?

Thanks.

In Thunderbird for Windows 10 desktop, when I look at certain emails between certain dates, they display unrelated coded emails. This occurs on all my email from February 3rd to February 23rd. The last occurence is 10:23am on the 23rd. My emaill at 10:25pm is where it returns to normal. I have attached a screenshot for reference. To reiterate, the coding in the body of the email has nothing to do with the original email and some of the emails have been stripped of their content completely.

I should mention, these were showing normally originally. If I look on my phone email app, they are showing as they should be.

How do I move all my message filters and address books from my Windows desktop PC to my Windows laptop?

I have three email accounts and ten address books. (The message filters use the address books to sort messages into folders.)

There are a bunch of abook* files in the root directory of the profile. Is it sufficient to move these to the laptop, or are they indexed somewhere?

There are msgFilterRules.dat files in many subfolders of Mail and ImapMail. Is it sufficient to move all of these into the corresponding folders on the laptop?

Is there an easier way to do either of these?

I am using Thunderbird Supernova and am pretty happy with it. However, I cannot figure out how to specify a different time zone than the system timezone when creating an event. For example, if I just bought a flight that departs at 4PM London time and I am in Miami when creating the event, how can I create this event without having to convert that time to my current time?

Surely this is possible but I can't figure out how. Thanks for any help!

I have Thunderbird 115.8.0 installed on my MacBook Pro with two email accounts, Yahoo and Gmail. I have set up the Tools/Message Filters/Block Filters as well. When I first launch Thunderbird all the spam shows up in my inbox, and just sits there. What I have to do is go to Tools/Message Filters at which point I'm asked to select an account. I select Yahoo (my primary account) and then "Run Filters" before anything actually happens. Then if I go back to my inbox, the spam emails start disappearing. It seems that Thunderbird does not remember the "Yahoo" selection in filters in between launches. Is there a setting I am missing, or is this just the product of having two different email accounts? Thank you.

I'm not familiar with how all this works, but excited to learn! I was going to wait to get the mobile client for Thunderbird once they launched the "Thunderbird" version, but didn't want to wait anymore and got K9 Mail. 😅 After setting up my account, none of my previous emails came through. Is this the expected behavior? I went through all the K9 docs and didn't see a mention of this. I've also gone into the settings and used the fetch mail option and tried to refresh the feed multiple times but it just spins forever. Have closed and reopened the app multiple times. It's been over a day and I only have about 2 weeks worth of email to fetch so I figured it can't take that long to pull everything in, right? I even got an email since setting up the account but that one didn't come through either. So confused 😵‍💫

Hello Mozilla Thunderbird forum, I have a Thunderbird latest release installation that fetches mails in 2 different ways with the same imap.orange.fr server and settings. The 1st account works as pop protocol: that means that messages are loaded locally, deleted from the server ; and no mail subfolders are present in the Thunderbird interface. The 2nd account synchronizes the mails and all remote subfolders in the local interface. To me, the 1st account is working weirdly. But I can't understand the reason of that. Have you some idea about that? with the best regards, Bernard (from France, sorry for the bad language ;-))

I am the tech admin at my school and one of my user's hard drives is totally full. I ran a sorted disk space command and found that the folder ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/5itb4j1n.default/ImapMail/imap.googlemail.com is 57GB. The hard drive is only 120 GB! Needless to say, I need to get this off the computer. It is a MacBook Air M1 running OS Sonoma 14.1.1 (can't upgrade because no disk space!)

The user accesses her Gmail through Thunderbird. There are messages in her Thunderbird history that are not available to her in Gmail because she integrated Thunderbird previously with her Yahoomail (before we switched to Google for our mail server). So we cannot delete Thunderbird because she needs it to be able to access old emails.

I'd like to know some options for having her continue to use Thunderbird (because she likes its layout) but without Thunderbird downloading and keeping a copy of every message/attachment that arrives.

I also want to know the best way to backup her existing Thunderbird and then be able to access it in the future, so that if she does need to access her historical archive of email messages, she can.

Currently on:

 version: 115.8.0

Reference: Gmail account of mine.

Long back I had a folder called "Archives" which I had created to archive mails when I press the "a" button shortcut on Mozilla Thunderbird. After some time, I wanted to move the Archives folder to the "gmail/All Mail" folder. I changed the settings for that Imap account under "copies and folder" to point Message Archives section to "All Mail on <email>" folder under the "Other" radiobutton

But I see that every time I archive an incoming message, I see that the "Archives" folder is auto-created. Gmail by default puts all the emails into the "All Mail" (aka Archives) folder but I see another Label called "Archives" created by Thudnerbird.

I have skimmed through all my email filters and i am sure that there is no such filter which could create that label in Gmail.

If some more information is needed please get back to me and I can provide the same. Why does Thunderbird create that folder ? How and where do I stop it from doing so ?

After years of leaving all messages in the inbox, I'm now clearing it of all the thousands of read messages. I can see how to filter for the unread messages, but not the read ones. Having to individually select the messages I want to remove from among the ones I want to keep in the inbox is more time consuming than if I could select all at once. Searching the help pages for this question hasn't helped. Maybe I'm not using the right words to describe what I want. Or maybe I'm missing something that should be obvious. I've never really familiarised myself with navigating around Thunderbird; I just open the messages that require immediate attention and then leave the Mail app to do other things. Any suggestions, besides pointing out that I could have avoided this situation with regular maintenance, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is not asking for my outgoing email password which it always has in the past. I am using Express VPN and Windows Security. I am using Thunderbird version 115.8.0. I am using Windows 10. I can send emails from the Spectum website (same email account).

I have tried disabling the Firewall and the VPN. It makes no difference with the problem of sending emails.

I am using Port 465 on my outgoing SMTP which the ISP recommends. Also SSL/TLS with normal password.

I need help be able to Send email from my Thunderbird account. The issue started about one week ago.

Thunderbird has always asked for my password to send email. It is bypassing this step. I think that it is necessary but it is bypassing this step in the process.

Could a synchronization error result in the loss of 1000 plus synchronized emails stored locally in my inbox? The local inbox emails were deleted on the IMAP server when downloaded. They don't show up anywhere at all. No sub-folders, trash or anywhere else. I did however end up with 1000 empty emails all dated for 1969 with no information in them at all, no headers no content, just dates. How do I find the real emails? There are two files with today's date on them labeled inbox in the inbox folder for Thunderbird. One has a . One looks large enough to be the correct one. It has a .MSF extension, the other has none. I had to change my PW for my Apple email account. When I open Thunderbird v115.8.0 it prompts me to enter the new PW. I do so and Thunderbird just goes into a loop — Wrong PW, Enter New PW, Wrong PW, Enter New PW, etc.

Then I remove the email account from Thunderbird and attempt to add it new. I fill out "Setup Your Existing Email Address". Thunderbird then gives me the green dialog, "Configuration found in Mozilla ISP database". I click "Done" and then, "Unable to login at server. Prob wrong config, username, pw".

The username and pw are correct. I can add the account just fine on Apple's email client.

It seems to me Thunderbird is still "remembering" the old PW and trying to login with it. I did go to Preferences:Passwords to make sure the account and its PW wasn't listed there.

A few months ago I noted the exact same behavior with an Outlook account. I finally gave up on trying to use Thunderbird to access that account and am using the Apple email client for it.

I much prefer Thunderbird and send my little donation every year, so I hope there is a solution other than completely uninstalling Thunderbird and reinstalling.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.
