Firefox randomly downloaded a file, with seemingly randomly name, that is 0 bytes and in download manager the source is moz-safe-about

Hello, Firefox randomly downloaded a file, with seemingly randomly name, that is 0 bytes and in download manager the source is moz-safe-about. It happened when I was accessing a popular wiki site. I opened the file in notepad, it was empty. I put it on virus total and came back negative, as it is an empty file. I've curbed through the support tickets here, using the keyphrase 'moz-safe-about'. I understand this was/is quite a common problem, but it still makes me quite worried and left a sour taste in my mouth, as I haven't understood any of the explanations.

this file was downloaded to computer

this file was downloaded to my computer, ETpjU_5v.htm, i did not click on anything, in the down load box it says "moz-safe-about resource" what is this?

When entering a help request/entering a link a file downloads?

Hi, if you open the Downloads list (Ctrl+J) and look at the history there, can you find those downloads? If the small print mentions "moz-safe-about", that would be similar to this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1375411

For example, in this thread about the phenomenon when it first appeared in Firefox 99: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1375411 In that case, the downloads list showed the content type as '''moz-safe-about''', and the problem seemed to be linked to insecure images (or ads?) in HTTPS Only mode. But it hasn't come up very often so it's not clear how best to avoid it.

Firefox downloaded 8 blank files yesterday, and I don't know what they are or where they came from. Help!

This is set separately from the default application to open HTTP and HTTPS links, so your Windows settings appear to be a little mixed up, but that's really a side point. If you open the Downloads list (Ctrl+J) and look at the history there, can you find those downloads? If the small print mentions "moz-safe-about", that would be similar to this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1375411 Hello, thank you for your response. When I looked in my history yesterday, they were listed as "moz-safe-about". Weirdly, when I updated my browser, these files are NO LONGER in the history (but other download files are). I'm so confused! What is going on, and is this a virus?

what are the 0kb htms that keep getting downloaded

Hi Rob, if you check the Downloads list (either click the Downloads button on the toolbar or press Ctrl+J), does the small print under the file name refer to "moz-safe-about"? There have been some threads on those. For example: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1375411

Nor can I check their role by disabling them, given the infrequency of occurrence. Could it be something like moz-safe-about ?
