For some reason now, every time I go to type a response to an e-mail, the program loads hundreds of lines of text below my earlier sent message. Need help as to how to fix this problem ?

Are these lines of text part of the original message or the response? Thunderbird offers the ability to include prior message and its response. If that is what is appearing and that you do not want, this can be reset at the composition settings pane for the account.
