OK, in all of this we've had the classic 'the mails crossed in transit'. The fix to the Owl extension probably released at about the time I was installing the older TBird.
In any case, the new Owl version 1.2.3 has fixed the issue of working with TBird 115.3.2 and we are back on track with the latest versions in all cases.
