Yesterday you people helped me get layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to the right value. In reading other posts, and in an effort to make text larger (I'm visually impaired), I tried a value of 1.125. Now I see only a tiny black box where TB should be. I know it was stupid, But I desperately need your help. How can I find the config file and edit it with a text editor so the value is again -1.0. And I promise to not cause you generous people any more problems!!!!

First, you are not causing any problems. This forum is here to support all users. Here is a fix: - exit thunderbird - locate the prefs.js and copy it to a safe location (just being safety-conscious.) - open prefs.js in a text editor, such as notepad. Be CAREFUL! - locate the entry in the file and carefully overtype back to -1.0 and save the file. - restart Thunderbird

Hi David, Thanks again. Slight problem here. I search for prefs.js and get numerous hits. Which file directory must I search in to find the correct file? Thanks, Paul

Click help>troubleshootinginformation scroll down to 'profile folder' in left side click 'open folder' You will now be inside the profile and the proper prefs.js will be there.

Not quite there yet... I followed the instructions within Firefox, got to the Open Folder button and clicked it. Made a copy of prefs.js, saved it elsewhere. Closed Firefox. Opened prefs.js with Notepad. Did not find layout.css.devPixelsPerPx -- when I searched the file for "layout" the search came up empty. Am I working with the correct prefs.js file? Thanks again, Paul

Why are you referencing Firefox?

Because within TB I cannot see anything -- that's the core problem I can't get to the prefs.js file from within TB.

Okay, go to c:\users<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird and open the profiles.ini file. It points to the active profile by name. The profile itself is in c:\users<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles folder. There you will see the prefs.js file to change,

I'm getting closer to the goal! I did fine the .ini file, and here are the contents. But I'm not sure of the name of the next file I'm looking for ot what the next step is:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=Profiles/mj62flpu.Oct2019 Locked=1

[Profile2] Name=Oct2019 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/mj62flpu.Oct2019

[Profile1] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/njph3ij8.default Default=1

[Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/jl7ak8p8.default-release

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

Well, you've narrowed down to just two profiles. Now, check prefs.js in each one and the one that has the 1.125 value that you entered will be the profile to change.
