why do I get notices from pantheos through modzilla firefox?

Why do I now receive regular notifications from pantheos? They come in via modzilla firefox. They are mostly religious in nature. Why do they come to me, and who pays for them, and why?

Remove the push notification permission for the website mentioned in the notification.

I find no website called Patheos. I am not aware of ever having given permission for notifications to come from this source. I am unable to stop the messages unless there is some way to stop patheos. This is a bunch of religious fanatics and Firefox should look into how they insinuate themselves into accounts like mine.

Hi David, could you explain in more detail where you see the messages?

I think your earlier check would have ruled out "desktop notifications" as the delivery method (Firefox sending messages to the Windows notification center).

Are they popping up in the corner of web pages, or dropping from the toolbar, or coming in as email messages? Etc.

In case they are from one of your add-ons, you could test in Troubleshoot Mode (although if they are infrequent, this might not be a good test): Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

They come in the upper right corner of the screen when I go to the firebox browser. This is the same location that I am informed of a new scanner edition. They are listed under "Mozilla Firefox." If I want to look back at recent ones, as I just did, I click on the notifications icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen, next to the date and the weather, etc. When I hit that icon, I get the last several. There are three up there right now from Patheos. Each says it comes to me from www.patheos.com. It is a mystery to me, as I never approved it, and it is the only thing like it that comes in. I appreciate you

following up on the vexing thing.

Okay, those do sound like "desktop notifications." This is an example of how they appear for me when I pull up the list:

Yours follow the same pattern?

You mentioned this occurs when you go to the browser. Do you mean only when you first start it, or does it happen more often, for example, when opening a new window (Ctrl+N) or new tab (Ctrl+T), or on some kind of schedule, etc.

To my great astonishment, as I looked just now to be better able to answer your question, I noticed that at each of the notices there is little wheel icon of the sort that usually means settings. I clicked on it for one of the patheos messages, and I got a message asking if I wanted to step getting notifications from patheos! So I did that. Problem solved, at lest for me. But the mystery of how it started I still don't get. But I am willing to drop this now. Thanks for your persistence. That kept me at it until the solution appeared.

Hi David, I guess that mutes them at the Windows level rather than within Firefox, or did it feed back into Firefox settings?

Either way, I suggest checking your add-ons and home page setting to make sure the site isn't insinuated in either place.
