I used thunderbird to connect to my email provider (lavabit). I logged in this morning and my computer was up the whole day and it now suddenly cannot connect to the server (Login to server mail.lavabit with username "*******” and telling me to either “Retry” or “Enter New Password”) I have seen some of the other postings with this problem and I want to clarify the following 1. It works for a while (a few hours) and then the connection goes stale when I keep it open but idle 2. I have to reboot the computer and try and again later for it to connect again 3. I am using the latest version of Thunderbrid (102.6.1) on a windows 11 machine 4. This has happened several times 5. I have not changed any of the settings in the meanwhile

Are the settings that cause a timeout. I have also reached out to the email provider but I want to make sure it is not something in the client.

exactly what authentication method is the account configured to use? Two factor authentication perhaps (those passwords only have a limited life. Sometime minutes sometimes hours.)

You might try disabling IPV6, especially is your provider is using Microsoft servers. Use the config editor to set the value network.dns.disableIPv6 to true. or disable itin windows using this. https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1265657

Thanks for the suggestion. Let me try it and see if it helps. I am using normal password for authentication, not two factor, so that should not be the reason. Anyway I have disable IPV6 and I will see if it works today. I have also reached out to the email provider to see if they have any ideas why the connection goes stale after a few hours. I will update if this works.

I have not had this problem since changing the IPV6 settings, so it appears to have solved the problem. I will keep a look out for some more time, but now I will consider it solved. Thanks

Hello I have been having this problem for 2 days, I am running 102.9.0 and I did as suggested the IPV6 chnage, that didn't work. Also I have NOT changed this password in years, so I don't remember what it is ! I have been using Thunderbird for years as I was a Netscape use & Thunderbird is a neat to use as Netscape was !!! Finally I am not too PC technical so even doing the IPV6 change was quite stressful !
