Firefox update popup window

Any and every time I open a link from Thunderbird which then opens in Firefox (my default browser), a popup window opens upper right hand corner of screen blocking the buttons, asking if I want to update Firefox.

Firefox when checked, shows no updates needed, it is 100% current.

Have run 3 different virus/malware finder programs, all say there is nothing in the system.

Since this only seems to happen when clicking on a link that is in an e-mail, I am wits end on how to eliminate this popup.

Any help is much appreciated.

I suggest you dismiss the message, open the menu under it and select help and then about.

What version of Firefox is is saying?

Now go to your firefox and repeat the help > about. What version is that showing?

Thunderbird is 102.2.1 (32 bit) Firefox is 104.0.2 (64 bit) I just notice that today Thunderbird says there is an update

I will run same to see if anything changes but don't expect this. The popup happens any time I open a link in my email that uses Firefox.

Standby as I have to update Thunderbird.

OK - after update Thunderbird is now 102.2.2 (32 bit) 

And it still opens the Firefox update popup window, same as before.

OK - here is what apparently fixed the popup issue. Go into Firefox setup and un check the box that says "allow Firefox to run updates in background". ( Did not uncheck the automatic updates (preferred setting).

This seems to have eliminated the popup that showed up every time I clicked a link in Thunderbird that required opening the Firefox browser.

Tested this with Firefox open in another window/tab and also with Firefox not loaded, but loading only when the link in Thunderbird was clicked to open.
