Thunderbird not downloading emails

For several days I get the message "Login to server imap.gmail.com with username alansharp26@gmail.com failed". This seems to be since the following update has been installed: Thunderbird 90.10.0 (20220525135609)iNSTALLED 6 June 2022 , 22..22.43. I can receive emails using Outlook on my laptop, and also on my phone and iPad. I have checked the settings and they seem correct.

Change Authentication Method to OAuth2 for both incoming and SMTP servers. See Automatic Conversion of Google mail accounts to OAuth 2.0 Authentication
