When I send a webpage (here's the code for it) -  :javascript:location.href=%27mailto:?SUBJECT=%27+document.title+%27&BODY=%27+escape(location.href); I call it "Send Link" - it does not show up in my sent folder. It used to work but no more for some reason. I'm aware of Tools, Acct Setting, Copies & Folders, Place a copy in sent folder or place in "Other". This does not help me. All other emails go into the Sent Folder. I am perplexed. Thanks for any help. Donna

Toad,

If I save the page on desktop as html (I'm using Google ) it puts a G icon on my desktop and shows me nothing and does not offer me to save in notepad. At this point I am not able to upload a pic because it saves as a png!

Windows 10 Thunderbird 78.5.1 and I do not want to update. I don't like the changes Thunderbird makes. Point in case, Thunderbird updated and I'm not sure, but I think that created the problem I am having now. As I mentioned in the beginning - Send Link used to put copies in my sent folder and then - the update? I can't prove it. My desktop doesn't have this problem and it's Windows 7 and Thunderbird is old, on it. What am I not getting? I was able to upoad a pic earlier. I feel dumb. Donna

re :If I save the page on desktop as html (I'm using Google ) it puts a G icon on my desktop and shows me nothing and does not offer me to save in notepad.

You will see a google icon because all documents saved as html will use whatever is set up as default browser which in your case is the Google Chrome. Do not be concerned about the icon used.

Just to be clear - it is worrying you are talking about 'saving the page' - You are not supposed to be saving the webpage as html. Perhaps the 'Save Page As' title shown when trying to save as html file is what you are saying.

You are supposed to be saving the 'Write' email message as html as shown in images below - these images are of version 78. I have created an example signature and need to save as html file. The point is the image shows you what to click on in the Write window which opened when you used the 'Send Link'. The second image of the Write window is the alternative which you can use - the 'Save' button has a drop down where you can select 'File' and the lower part of image shows what it opens.

re :does not offer me to save in notepad. You are not supposed to be saving in Notepad. You are supposed to right click on the saved email html file and select to 'Open with' Notepad in order to see the contents.

Ok when I "save as", it only allows me to save as text file or all files. There is no html on the drop down menu and if I delete the txt at the ending of the address and addit, it changes it to an icon where I cannot open it with notepad. I think I have a screen shot of that in past comments. Youre second pic shows saving it as an html in the drop down window but I do not have that option.

Check a setting on computer and then see if the 'File > Save as > now offers html

In Control Panel and select the view by small icons. select 'File Explorer Options' Select 'View' tab uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types” Click on 'Apply' then 'ok'

** Oops, I see this was tested six weeks ago. Never mind. **

I realize this is very random, but...

Does it make any difference if you Save the message to drafts, close it, then re-open it from drafts before sending? Or simply Save it to drafts before sending without closing it?

I was able to pick html in the drop down now, after shutting down and restarting. There it was. Here is an email I sent myself days ago and decided to try again to save it to desktop and open in notepad , I was able to. Can we learn something from this?

When I use Firefox and File > Email Link opens in Thunderbird Write and then I save as file html. Open the saved html using Notepad, I see a line that is not included in your image. Yours is missing the meta data line which is shown in my html file in the 'head' before the 'title'. See image below. It shows my copy above and your copy below. I've underlined in red the line inserted into my version.

My version is copying the google search displayed in the top address text area. Your version seems to copying something you have highlighted within a webpage because it has inserted a load of code eg: 'table'.

Toad, I go to a webpage, I hit "Send Link" went to File, Saved As html to desktop. Opened icon with Notepad and here is what I have. I don't know what else to do and I feel like we are going over the same thing but perhaps not. I'm at a loss. Donna

I would have expected a 'Write' email - saved as File type html and opened using Notepad to display html and meta information. Your case seems to say that does not occur. This may explain why it is not being saved as a draft or in sent as that is an obvious difference.

But as yet, no solution.

TEST: If you use Firefox, it has 'File > Email Link' and there is no problem. Have you tested using that method in eg: Firefox browser to see if you can save aas a draft and get a copy in Sent when sending email. This would tell us if the problem was in Thunderbird or with the way you are doing it in Chrome.

Hi Toad, I used my desktop as I do do not have Firefox on laptop. Remember that Thunderbird "send link" (using javascript) DOES work on my desktop. The link I am sending does show up in drafts, I did save it as html to desktop and opened with Notepad and I get the same non discript link which shows nothing but the address. I did open up FF and went to file and used "email link" and saved to desktop and the same nothing came up with Notepad. It did save in Drafts. I think I was able to have coding show up in one of my past attempts. Why it's not happening now, I don't know. I'm going to talk to my computer guy and see if he can shed light on it.
