Hi I am using an Accounts Package called VT Transaction Plus +. On my new laptop running Windows 11 when I try and email an invoice the VT App reports that there is no Default Email Application set - but Thunderbird is def set up as the defult app.

If I click a mail link in a browser it launches Thunderbird. If I 'send to' a file I can see Thunderbird as option.

I have tried reinstalling both VT and Thunderbird. I am running the 32 bit version of TB as instructed to by VT Transaction.

Anything else I can try please?

Thanks Jonathan

You can confirm that by checking 'default apps' in windows 11. And, since the problem is because the applications doesn't launch TB, I suggest contacting the software vendor.

Use the Search next to the Start button in lower left corner or the Start then Search and type: Control Panel

Once you open you go to Default Programs> Set your default programs> Locate Thunderbird and under Mailto click on Mail then the icon to the right, a square with arrow and choose Thunderbird.

Hi thanks Yes already spoken to the VT App vendor and they have remote looked at my machinne but no joy. Used to work fine on Windows 10 on a differnet mchine.

Default Apps are all set to Thuderbird inc mailto etc. I just wondered if anyone know anything else I could try apart from Default Apps as that is def all set up. Maybe something in the registry. Thanks Jonathan

Since Windows is acknowledging TB as default, I suggest you ask vendor what they are checking in registry, since whatever it is, it disagrees with Windows.

A MAPI issue like this can sometimes be fixed by reinstalling TB in a particular way: download and run the correct 32-bit 91 installer, choose Advanced setup, set TB as default, don't run TB at the end, then restart the computer (important). Check if mailing from VT works.

Thanks for that - I tried it twice but the accounts package still fails to open Thunderbird and insists that there is no default app set up - when there def is. Will go back to the vendor again - they said they would try a remote access. J

As long as you've verified that the accounts package is 32-bit, to work with 32-bit TB, there is a slightly complex method that has worked with other devices, e.g. scanners, and apps, in cases where the app is designed to communicate with Outlook:

But I recommend you first try the conventional methods to see if the connection can be made.

thanks for that - tried that method and it still refuses to open Thunderbird. Was all fine on Windows 10 - apparently email things changed in Windows 11. But if I've done the reg hack and Default Apps all report Thunderbird as email client I don't know what else to do apart from go back to Windows 10. Not evn sure if I can do that - I bought a recon laptop with Windows 11 Pro installed. Thanks for help Jonathan
