Firefox won't download files from https://www.bluesound.com/.

Used to be able to download files from anywhere I chose. Now, cannot download from www.bluesound.com. ISP and I ran test that shows download and upload work, and AT&T e-mails are arriving into MS Outlook (although very much slower than in the past).

When download request sent to Bluesound, the wait cursor spins indefinitely. Once left it running overnight, still spinning the next morning.

Perhaps this has to do with security settings. Advice, anyone?

After a week or more during which Firefox would not download files and Outlook would not run at all, these problems mysteriously vanished. All seems to have returned to proper functioning.

The crystal-clear conclusion: My home digital hardware, software, and network are haunted. Or I'm insane. Or both.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check the Web Console for messages about blocked content.


You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a download manager.


This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

Please help me understand. I've been downloading from that website for over a year, without an add-in. Why would I suddenly need a download manager in March 2021?

Things change. The problem may be something about the website, or the browser. Have you tried Firefox save mode yet?


That's SAFE mode, not save. sorry.

Not familiar with Firefox SAFE mode.

I did get into Firefox SAVE mode, but that didn't seem to work. For shame ... had to open MS Edge to get the download.

Despite difficulties with Firefox, still seems like the best game in town. Have no desire to revert to one of the predatory browsers.

Perhaps it's some Firefox security toggle inadvertently reset. However, don't recall changing anything there.

Thanks, anyway. Will keep working on this. Perhaps the sun shall shine on my labors.

It could have been something corrupt got in the way. Or maybe an update fixed the problem.
