Hello

All my folders with their names and email lists have suddenly reverted to really small font (I can still control font size in emails)

I think I managed this aspect with the theme font and size changer add-on in the past which is still installed but no longer visible in the tool bar.

As others on their website state, this add-on suddenly stopped working for them and became invisible. I've tried ta reinstall but that hasn't worked

The problem now is that the font is so bloody small that I can barely read it.

I just wish Mozilla would work a bit better with add-ons. We really need some of them but they seem to become redundant with every new update. It's really frustrating at the best of times but this is a disaster for me! I need to see emails for my work.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

I'm on Thunderbird 60.0b7 and I can't use Thunderbird, as the theme and font size changer won't work, and the fonts on my Mac are so tiny I can barely see anything.

What in the world are the people at Mozilla thinking when they pull this stuff?

I was a loyal user of TB for many years and now I can't use it because the fonts are so incredibly tiny!!

What is wrong with you Mozilla????????

You're using a beta. That's your choice.

One of the requirements placed upon those who trial unreleased software is that they must expect to have extraordinary difficulties, and need to anticipate that many or all add-ons may not (yet) work.

The font size can be worked around without relying on the add-on by setting up a userChrome.css file.

As a beta user, this should be enough of a hint to enable you to find out what needs doing.

userChome.css file? What is that? Is it expected now that we all become HTML programmers to use the product?

So, okay, I changed to the latest released version of TB, and the theme and font changer worked.

Thanks.

For the benefit of anyone who does not want to use an addon extension to increase font size, you can choose to do the following as an alternative.

You do not need to know how to 'code'. Whilst it may sound a bit daunting, this is actually easy to do. You only need these basic skills:

  • Follow instructions
  • know how to create folders
  • know how to copy and paste text
  • Can save files correctly.

Let's start..... Make Hidden files and folder visible:

In Thunderbird:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'show folder' button
  • a new window opens showing your Profile folder.
  • Close Thunderbird now - this is important.
  • Create new folder and call it chrome note the spelling - use a lower case 'c' It should be in the same place as the 'Mail' folder.

See image below as guide.

  • open Notepad:

usually located under All Programs > Accessories > Notepad

  • Copy all the text between lines below and paste it into the Notepad document.

/*
* Do not remove the @namespace line -- it's required for correct functioning
 */
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* set default namespace to XUL */

/*
*Make all the default font sizes eg:14 px:
*/

   * { font-size: 14px !important; }

If this proves to be too small you can edit the 14px to say 16px etc or too large then try 12px. Just remember that any editing must be done with Thunderbird closed.

  • Save the document as filename userChrome.css in the chrome folder. Note the spelling all lower case except for the 'C'.

see image below.

Restart Thunderbird.
