I've explored all the options described under: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working unfortunately clicking on links still does not work in Thunderbird. I'm using PureOS (Debian based Linux) and Purebrowser (which is basically just a preconfigured FF).

Every time I click on a link I see that entry added to the error console: 23:07:32.781 NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIExternalProtocolService.loadUrl] 1 contentAreaClick.js:192 openLinkExternally chrome://communicator/content/contentAreaClick.js:192:3 contentAreaClick chrome://communicator/content/contentAreaClick.js:163:3 onclick chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xul:1:8

Please let me know if there's any more info I can grab and how to assist with the investigation.

Cheers Marek

I've established that when I change to default browser to another one (checked Gnome Web) then the links open fine. It appears that it's something specific to Purebrowser (or PureOS). However still as it appears to be internal error registered inside Thunderbird error console, and based on the fact that clicking on links in other apps works fine opening them in Purebrowser (privacy/security preconfigured FF), I'm not sure if it's not Thurderbirds issue.

Forgot to add earlier information about the version I'm running: 52.4.0 (64-bit).
