Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Hello,

You could try with a new profile or to refresh:

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I have the same problem with the new FF version running under W10 (FF doesn't work at all on my W7 laptop). Every action needs a manual refresh. I click on "Sign In" then must manually refresh to get the sign in form, I type in a search & click on "Search" but nothing happens until I manually refresh. I can't even go to page 2 without a manual refresh. Very tedious & frustrating when every single action needs a manual refresh. Please help!

Note: v55 has been giving users problems. Reinstall v54.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

As an extension of this problem I also can't sign in to some sites, even when I manually refresh. On some sites a refresh gets me thru' but some, including my main employment site, FF just won't let me sign in. I've got to change to Internet Explorer to log in to get details for my upcoming jobs - this is a major problem as it can cost me future jobs & an income. This is under W10, my W7 comp has a keyboard problem until the new membrane arrives so I don't know if this is unique to W10.

I got FF 32-bit running on my laptop at last but both 64 & 32 bit FF have the same problem with re-captcha, pics, vids, logins & auto-refresh. I use 2 Different comps running 2 different OS's (Win 7 & Win 10) but have very similar problems. Ebay is a nightmare with having to manually refresh after every single mouse click, sometimes I have to repeat the same action a number of times before I get the refreshed page. If I want to watch a vid, see a captcha, sign in to some sites & avoid "Page not found" & timeouts I've got to use Internet explorer. I get as much done as I can under FF then change to IE to complete what FF wouldn't do. Is there a fix?
