I have 10 email accounts and the other 9 are fine. No problems with email provider, Go Daddy, where I have to go now to retrieve my emails from the one troubled account.

I have two computers that use Thunderbird and am having the same issue on both. But, my iPad uses a different program and I have no problem receiving emails on the account in question.

After much troubleshooting, including checking all options with Go Daddy to make sure the problem was not on my side, my conclusion is that there is a glitch with Thunderbird.

Although this is neither a new topic, nor was it resolved when posted by another user, I posted all this as a continuation of the dead end string (9/4/15) and started this new one that will hopefully get more attention, help, or whatever it takes to get a resolution to this odd issue.

Thank you!

Then looking at the information: Q1: tell us the account number which is having the problem.

Q2: when you try to 'Get Messages' with the problem account, what happens ? Q3: What do you see in the bottom 'Status Bar', does it say, looking up, connecting, connected etc ? Q4: Do you get an error message, if yes, what does it say, word for word ?

Since I am having the same issue on my laptop and my desk top computers (but not my iPad, which does not use Thunderbird) I will post both "Troubleshooting information" reports here, one at a time.

All my Go Daddy accounts are up to date, have the same information, and are working on the Go Daddy server and on my iPad (no Thunderbird app).

Can you see the problem?

Thank you for checking into this!

They are all IMAP-connected accounts. Therefore you could delete the offending account in Thunderbird, then re-install it, with a clean new profile entry.

That's a lot of accounts with one provider, so I guess they are not all personal accounts. Are any of them significantly different? What domains do they associate with? Is the affected account a peer of the others? Not some variant of sub-account or alias for another one?

Do you know how it is that you have come to have old-fashioned, insecure connections on one machine, and SSL-encrypted connections on the other? I doubt this is relevant, as both are broken, but if I had SSL available to me, I'd be keen to use it.

No error messages? No spinning throbber? No timeouts?

If you really believe it's a Thunderbird bug, then you could test this theory by reinstalling an older version.

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

more options

Yes, I could delete and reinstall, but each account is in order and I would need to delete them all and start over. What if this new problem infects them all once reinstalled? Is this a risk?

Keep in mind, there is no problem with my iPad version of that email account. Does not seem to be an account issue. The problem started on the same day for both of the computers using Thunderbird, Nov. 19th.

I have two domain names for my emails. The email account with the issue has the same domain name as two of my other accounts which are working fine.

The desktop is running an older system, the laptop is new. Need to keep them this way. They have the exact same problem, so it has nothing to do with the computers or their individual systems. Yes, I am not happy with the insecure connection, but it is the best that GoDaddy can do for now with that computer. I will certainly look into it again, as I do from time to time.

Correct...no error messages, spinning throbber, timeouts, or activity in the status bar. Only thing is the blue text notifying me I have new messages, but then no messages are visible.

I might like to install an older version on my desktop to see what happens. Thanks for this suggestion.

You can re-arrange the order of accounts. That's a feeble excuse. ;-)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/manually-sort-folders/

Have you looked in the error console for any clues?

That's under Tools|Error Console, or ctrl+shift+j here in Linux.

more options

Not feeble, practical. This email account is my main business. With 10 accounts, it is a waste of my precious time to scroll down to the bottom to retrieve hourly emails.

I tried to post the error text, but it is too long for the limit on this format, over 10k characters.

There are two types of errors. Both say "this._tree is null"

more options

So, I deleted, then reinstalled the troubled email account on my laptop....BIG MISTAKE!!

Yes, the new emails appeared, but now all the older ones are missing content, as well as my special highlights. On top of that, it will not allow me to select the "*" to mark important emails. Now it is worse!!

For me, this is clearly a Thunderbird issue and it is too risky for me to follow the advice of random support input.

Ok this sounds like it is now working as you have got the new emails.

Please check the following for newly created imap account. Do not assume anything. Have you subscribed to see all the folders? Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'. Make sure all the folders you need to see are actually selected.

Have you synchronised all of those folders to get a copy into Thunderbird? check the settings for that imap mail account.

more options

please note if you own a apple device and have trouble receiving mail. Turn off the apple device, which may well be connected to the mail account a dozen or more times to make it faster. Apple in their wisdom enabled multiple connections. But they forgot the limiter to stop their products consuming all available connections.

Current Status: Still awaiting feedback on what I thought was an important issue.

Assuming everything is fully subscribed and synchronised for that imap mail account.

If you still have only headers, but no content on older emails and you have tried to Repair the folder but still have lost emails.....

Please tell us the following: Logon to webmail server Q: Can you can see all emails on server? If yes, you can see them via webmail In Thunderbird

  • Right click on folder and select 'Properties'
  • click on 'Repair folder' button
  • click on OK

Select another folder and then reselect the problem folder. Did this fix the issue?

If emails are missing on webmail server..... In Thunderbird Make hidden files and folders visible

Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'Show folder' a new window opens showing contents of profile folder name Please close Thunderbird now

click on 'ImapMail' folder You should see a list of all your imap mail accounts. It is possible that although you removed the imap mail account, it may still be in this 'ImapMail' folder if you had been synchronising folders.

According to the laptop posted information, you should have eight imap mail accounts. Please count them, do you have nine(or more)?

If yes: The last one may be the newly added imap mail account. I would like you to see if the original imap mail account is still there. It could be the 5th, 6th or 7th in the list, you will need to check a few mail accounts. click on imap mail account folder. You should see a list of files and folders. If the problem is with the 'Inbox' not showing all mail or has missing old emails: Open 'Inbox' (not Inbox.msf) using a text editor like Notepad. Scroll down and look for the missing emails.

Q: Did you find the original imap mail account which still has the emails showing content?

Last feedback from me was that the random input from this sting has created more problems with this issue, not resolution.

Still working on this issue. Silence to your input does not equal lax in my business concerns.
