Very, very, slow at connecting with outgoing SMTP server using my home desktop. No problems when I use the laptop. Something in the profile must be causing this

I have 2 email accounts, on my main desktop, using Thunderbird. I use my desktop as the main PC and the laptop as secondary, which means the desktop PC downloads the POP3 emails from the server and the laptop views the POP3 emails, leaving them on the server until the desktop downloads them. On the desktop, the IMap works great, the POP3 is extremely slow at connecting to the outgoing SMTP server. This problem started about 3 months ago. Before that, there were no issues. When I use my laptop to view and reply or send emails, there are no issues with either accounts. That tells me that there is an issue with the profile on my desktop. ut keep in mind that this is an outgoing issue. I have compared both profiles from the desktop to the laptop and I can't seem to find any differences. I backed up my profile and uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled but then I imported my profile because I want my emails and address books. I have consulted with my ISP and we agreed that there are no issues at their end. Hope you have some suggestions.
